The Tone:

• Team: Investment team, specifically working with Portfolio Managers and senior sector analysts, reporting to a Vice President, Analyst.
• Mission: Contribute to idea generation, company research, and ongoing portfolio monitoring within the Healthcare sector for U.S. Small and Mid Cap strategies.
• Tech Stack: Internal quantitative tools and screening reports.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Fundamental Research: Support fundamental research on small and mid-cap healthcare companies, including in-depth financial statement analysis, valuation work, and competitive positioning assessment.
• Financial Modeling: Assist senior analysts in building, maintaining, and updating comprehensive financial and valuation models to support and validate investment theses.
• Primary Research: Actively participate in primary research activities, such as attending management meetings, industry conferences, expert consultations, and interacting with sell-side analysts.
• Portfolio Monitoring & Sector Insights: Monitor existing portfolio holdings, including earnings releases, news flow, and material developments, while also tracking healthcare sector trends, regulatory changes, and innovation pipelines to share insights with the investment team.
• Idea Generation & Documentation: Contribute to developing both long and short investment ideas consistent with Alger’s philosophy, and help prepare internal research notes, company summaries, and investment memoranda.

The Must-Haves
• Background: An undergraduate degree is required in finance, economics, engineering, mathematics, science, or a closely related field, demonstrating a foundational understanding of healthcare business models, including regulatory, reimbursement, and innovation dynamics. A cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above on a 4.0 scale is also required.
• Experience: A minimum of 3–4 years of buyside experience is essential for this role.
• Skills: Strong fundamental research capabilities are necessary, encompassing financial statement analysis, valuation, modeling, and the ability to operate as a healthcare generalist covering multiple subsectors. Excellent written and verbal communication, high self-motivation, intellectual curiosity, and a disciplined work ethic are also key.
• Bonus: An MBA and/or CFA designation is preferred but not required, and prior experience covering or working within the healthcare sector is a strong plus.
