Finance Manager | Roadrunner

The Tone:
This is a full-time role at Roadrunner, located in San Francisco, CA. Roadrunner is building a new agentic stack called PQA (Prompt, Quote, Approve) designed to replace outdated CPQ software for enterprise sales teams. As the company’s first finance hire, this role is critical for establishing and managing the financial health of the organization from the ground up, providing essential insights to leadership and investors.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Function Leadership: Own Roadrunner’s financial health end-to-end and build the finance function from the ground up.
• System & Reporting Setup: Set up the systems, reporting, and processes that provide leadership with a clear picture of the company’s financial standing and future direction.
• Financial Narrative: Own the financial narrative for the board and investors, encompassing runway, burn, growth, and its implications for the business.
• Business Partnership: Serve as the finance partner to every team, assisting Sales with deal economics and guiding leadership on headcount and budget decisions using real numbers.
• Operational Strategy: Determine what financial tasks to handle internally versus outsourcing, exercising judgment and taking full ownership of the outcomes.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Manager-level experience in finance, specifically running finance at a high-growth startup.
• Experience: Ideally, experience as the first or only finance hire, demonstrating the ability to build a function from the ground up.
• Skills: Strong capabilities as both an operator and a strategist, with good judgment for building, buying, or outsourcing solutions, and a proactive approach to partnering with the business rather than acting as a back-office function.
• Bonus: Experience as the first finance hire at an early-stage company, understanding the zero-to-one journey, and proficiency across multiple finance hats such as accounting, FP&A, RevOps, and compliance, knowing how they connect.
