Job Description: HBO Student Internship – Ink Viscosity Prediction Modeling

Canon is seeking a motivated HBO-level student (Chemistry or related field) for a 4-6 month internship (minimum 4 days/week) to improve their UV ink development process. Currently, ink recipe development relies heavily on trial-and-error, which is time-consuming and expensive. Canon aims to implement a model-based approach to predict ink viscosity, a crucial property for ink jetting.

The Assignment:

The intern will focus on developing a predictive model for ink viscosity. This involves:

• Investigating the physical chemistry of UVgel ink ingredients at a molecular level to understand how they affect viscosity.
• Determining which properties of the ink ingredients need to be measured to be used as input variables for the model.
• Developing and testing the predictive viscosity model.

The Goal: To significantly reduce the time and cost associated with ink recipe development by creating a model that can predict viscosity based on ingredient composition. This would accelerate the process of finding optimal ink recipes.

The Challenges:

The intern will need to design and execute experiments to measure relevant properties of ink ingredients and build a robust predictive model.

Expected Outcomes:

A functional predictive model for ink viscosity based on ingredient properties and concentrations, thereby contributing to a more efficient and cost-effective ink development process.
