Job Description

About Canon Production Printing

Canon Production Printing develops and manufactures high-tech printing products and workflow software for the commercial printing market. It is a part of Canon, a global provider of imaging technologies and services. Canon Production Printing operates on three continents, with approximately 3300 employees (end 2022) and has its global headquarters in Venlo, the Netherlands.

Job Description

Are you a WO student looking for a graduation assignment and ready to change our way of working in ink development?

This assignment focuses on UV-curable inks, which have become crucial in the graphic market, allowing for numerous high-value applications. Canon’s successful UVgel technology, used in the Colorado printer family, is at the forefront of this field.

Canon aims to transition its approach from pragmatic ink screening to a model-based way of working. In collaboration with the University of Amsterdam, Canon is developing complex kinetic models that capture all the chemical processes involved in the conversion of monomer to polymer. These models are currently based on simplified ink recipes and differ significantly from real-world inks.

This is where your expertise comes in!

We are searching for enthusiastic students fascinated by the complexities of free-radical polymerization. As a student, you will:

Bridge the gap between simplified model-ink and real ink by designing smart experiments.
Develop a program to analyze this complex process.
Run computer simulations and perform analytical tests such as NMR and IR-spectroscopy.

This is an opportunity to make a real impact and work in a professional environment within a large company. You will gain invaluable experience and network with professionals across various fields.

Your Profile

• Research background in polymer chemistry
• Experience with materials characterization, particularly NMR, IR, and rheometry
• Proficiency in Matlab coding
Result-driven and self-motivated team player
• Available for 5-9 months, working minimum 4 days per week

What’s in it for you?

Challenging assignment with skilled coaching
Internship/Graduation compensation of €500,- per month
Travel cost compensation if you don’t have an ‘OV-weekcard’
Networking opportunities with professionals inside and outside your field
Collaborative, innovative, and ownership-driven work environment
