The Tone:
This is an internship at Michigan Medicine, located in Ann Arbor, MI. This role is pivotal in preparing new Graduate Nurses for a Registered Nurse position within the state-of-the-art Pavilion 5 Neuro Critical Care Unit (NCCU) at the D. Dan and Betty Kahn Health Care Pavilion, contributing directly to high-level patient care and the institution’s mission.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Undertake a comprehensive internship combining classroom instruction and precepted bedside clinical experience to transition into a Registered Nurse role.
• Provide high-level, specialty care to critically ill patients from neurosurgery, neurology, stroke, otolaryngology, and oral maxillofacial surgery services.
• Manage patients presenting with complex conditions such as post-operative craniotomies, cerebral aneurysms, intracranial hemorrhage, severe head/spinal cord injuries, and neurological syndromes like Myasthenia Gravis or Guillain-Barre.
• Develop skills in advanced critical care assessments and interventions, including caring for free flaps, utilizing dopplers, and managing tracheostomies and increased intracranial pressure.
• Adhere to a two-year commitment to the Pavilion 5 NCCU after internship completion, working a 36-hour per week schedule with primary night shifts and every other weekend rotation.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Graduate Nurse or a newly licensed Registered Nurse in the State of Michigan who has not yet practiced as a Registered Nurse.
• Experience: Successful completion of the NCLEX no later than 45 days from the individual start date.
• Skills: Ability to achieve ACLS certification during the orientation period; Must be able to start internship by May 30, 2026.
• Bonus: BSN preferred, a minimum of 6 months of PCT experience or nurse externship caring for critical care patients, excellent interpersonal and communication skills, demonstrated leadership abilities, highly motivated and organized, and takes initiative in professional growth.
