Job Summary

As a Graduate Nurse, you will operate under the general supervision of a Registered Nurse, providing comprehensive nursing care, including the accurate and timely administration of medications and treatments, to ensure optimal patient outcomes.

  • Reports To: Unit Coordinator, Clinical Manager, or Registered Nurse

  • Positions Supervised: Nursing Assistants

Essential Job Functions

The Graduate Nurse is responsible for a variety of critical duties that support patient well-being and unit operations. While specific functions may evolve, the core responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Providing direct patient care, focusing on patient comfort and recovery.
  • Administering medications (including PO, IM, and IV piggybacks) safely, accurately, and in a timely manner, with meticulous documentation of administration.
  • Ensuring the safeguarding of all medications and narcotics in accordance with hospital policy and regulatory requirements.
  • Initiating and assisting with the maintenance of intravenous (IV) lines.
  • Maintaining accurate and thorough documentation of all patient care activities, observations, and interventions.
  • Assisting in patient education efforts, collaborating effectively with multidisciplinary team members to promote health literacy.
  • Contributing to the cleanliness and organization of the unit environment.
  • Assisting with comprehensive admission and discharge assessments for patients.
  • Upholding patient privacy and rights, and providing culturally sensitive care that respects individual patient values and beliefs.
  • Assuming responsibility for delivering care to an assigned group of patients, strictly adhering to the care plan developed by the Registered Nurse.
  • Promptly reporting all significant patient observations and pertinent information to the Registered Nurse, fostering a close and harmonious working relationship.
  • Assisting in the orientation of new employees to the unit and hospital procedures.
  • Delivering nursing care in a safe and timely manner, consistently aligning with hospital policies, procedures, and philosophy.
  • Successfully completing all required annual competencies to maintain professional proficiency.
  • Performing other related duties as assigned to support overall unit and organizational goals.
  • Adhering to all Corporate Policies, Departmental Policies and Procedures, and the Personnel Employee Handbook.
  • Demonstrating flexibility and willingness to cross-train to other units as operational needs require.
  • Exhibiting excellence in customer service skills, fostering a positive experience for patients, families, and colleagues.
  • Promoting an atmosphere of teamwork and collaboration, actively participating in unit meetings and discussions.
  • Engaging in quality improvement activities, including serving on quality improvement teams to enhance patient care and operational efficiency.
