Who We Are Looking For:

GHD is seeking a Graduate Environmental Scientist to join our EHS Compliance team. In this role, you will contribute to delivering environmental consulting services to industrial clients across the region. This position is ideal for individuals with 0-2 years of experience who are eager to develop their expertise in environmental compliance.

Key Responsibilities:

Working with an energetic and high-performing team in a hybrid work model (three days in-office), your responsibilities will include:

  • Permit Applications: Assisting with the preparation and submission of various environmental permit applications (air, stormwater, wastewater).
  • Environmental Plan Development: Developing and updating crucial environmental plans such as Spill Prevention, Control, and Countermeasure (SPCC) plans, Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plans (SWPPP), and Hazardous Waste Contingency Plans (HWCP).
  • Compliance Reporting: Preparing comprehensive compliance reports related to air emissions, hazardous waste, and Emergency Planning and Community Right-to-Know Act (EPCRA).
  • Site Visits: Conducting field work, including site visits, to gather data, perform inspections, and assess environmental conditions.
  • Technical Writing: Producing accurate and well-structured technical documents and reports.
  • Regulatory Interpretation: Interpreting complex environmental regulations to advise clients and help them achieve their compliance goals.
  • Personal Capability Building: Actively participating in assessment, development planning, formal and informal training, and coaching. Staying abreast of relevant technology, external regulations, and industry best practices through continuous education and professional engagement.
  • Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE): Adhering to organizational HSE policies and procedures, identifying and mitigating environmental risks, and promoting a safe working environment for yourself and your team.
  • Data Collection and Analysis: Collecting data from standard sources and inputting it into specified formats to produce accurate reports.
  • Document Preparation: Organizing and preparing complex documents using various software applications and gathering/summarizing data for special reports.
  • Community of Practice Management: Participating in a community of practice to build expertise in a defined area.
  • Client & Customer Management (External): Supporting senior colleagues in managing client relationships using relevant systems.
  • Environmental Risk Management: Contributing to environmental risk management processes, ensuring alignment with regulations and corporate sustainability goals.
  • Sampling and Testing: Collecting straightforward samples and conducting tests as directed, in accordance with defined processes and regulatory requirements.
  • Environmental Impact Assessment: Performing routine tasks related to environmental impact assessments using specified systems and protocols.
  • Bid/Proposal Preparation: Gathering information and resources to assist in drafting requests for bid solicitation, requests for proposal (RFP), and requests for tender (RFT).
  • Project Management Support: Assisting with various project management activities.

What You Will Bring to the Team:

  • Education: Bachelor’s and/or Master’s Degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or a similar field of study.
  • Experience: 0-2 years of experience; some knowledge of environmental regulations affecting industry is preferred but not required.
  • Certifications (Plus): OSHA 40 Hour HAZWOPER certification is a valuable asset.
  • Field Work & Travel: Ability to perform field work and travel overnight as needed.
  • Communication Skills: Strong written and technical writing skills are essential.

Salary Range:

$66,000 – $68,000 based on experience and location.
