Junior Transit Systems Consultant | Hatch

This position plays a crucial part in the creation and construction of our cities by applying specialized Transit System expertise to practical, safe, innovative, and sustainable solutions for urban development.

The TL;DR
• Role: Early Career
• Location: In-person, Washington, DC
• Pay: $75000–$90000 yearly
• Team: North American Infrastructure group, reporting to a senior staff member.
• Mission: Support the Northeast US region by contributing Transit System expertise through design review, vendor collaboration, and technical support for project implementation and system performance.
• Tech Stack: Automated Fare Payment ecosystem, GIS, GPS location, CAD/AVL, Mobility as a Service (MaaS), wayfinding, GTFS, open data standards, SQL Database.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Design & Specifications: Create, modify, and review design documents and technical specifications for transit systems.
• Vendor Management: Direct collaboration with vendors as a representative of the client to manage technical aspects and submittals.
• Equipment Review: Inspect and review prototype and first article equipment, then prepare detailed descriptions of findings.
• Testing & Commissioning: Assist in the testing and commissioning of Transit system equipment and software, following basic test plans and procedures.
• Performance Monitoring: Monitor system performance and adherence to Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and Service Level Agreements (SLAs).

The Must-Haves
• Background: A Bachelor’s degree in Business or Engineering or a related field, with a focus on core Transit System concepts within the transportation industry.
• Experience: One or more years of progressive professional systems experience.
• Skills: Excellent analytical, written, and oral communication skills; basic knowledge of Transit systems such as fare payment technologies, GIS, GPS location, CAD/AVL, Mobility as a Service (MaaS), wayfinding, GTFS, and open data standards; basic understanding of SQL Database and ability to perform basic database queries.
• Bonus: Experience working in the Automated Fare Payment ecosystem is preferred; flexibility to travel to various client sites as needed.
