Job Title: Graduate Apprentice (Student Pathways Apprenticeship Program)

Salary: $20.00 Hourly

Location: Fremont Campus (and assigned feeder high school sites in Fremont, Newark, and Union City)

Program Overview:
Ohlone College is seeking currently enrolled graduate school students to serve as Graduate Apprentices (GAs) to strengthen pathways and services for high school students in the Fremont, Newark, and Union City region. This apprenticeship provides students with essential skills, expertise, and experience for professional roles in high school and higher education environments, offering general and in-depth knowledge into a vast range of student support services and programs. This is a temporary position.

Objectives of the Graduate Apprentice (GA) Role:
The primary purpose of the GA is to guide feeder school students on the pathway to Ohlone College. GAs will develop relationships with assigned feeder school sites and students through consistent presence on high school campuses. The program aims to develop professionals who can, under supervision, aid feeder school students.

Key Responsibilities and Duties:
Presence and Relationship Building: Be present on high school campuses to develop relationships with students and staff at assigned feeder school sites.
Information and Support: Provide information, answer questions, and assist in the recruitment, enrollment, and matriculation of Ohlone College feeder school students.
Student Assistance: Serve designated locations and provide student assistance in various areas, including:
• Career assessment
• College applications
• Financial literacy and financial aid applications
• Matriculation assistance and transition processes
• Admissions
• Basic residency questions
• Dual enrollment processes & paperwork
• Dreamer/undocumented access
Program Knowledge and Promotion: Be versed in and provide information on various student support programs, such as UMOJA, Puente, Career Services, Dreamers/Undocumented, Student Accessibility Services (SAS), Extended Opportunity Programs and Services (EOPS), Career Planning, Guided Pathways programs, etc.
Integration Model: Contribute to creating a model for student integration into the college to increase opportunities for success by introducing the college and its services to feeder school students.
Skill Development: Develop skills, abilities, and sensitivities for assisting a diverse student population in an educational setting.
Technology and Communication: Employ technology and communication systems to generate reports, track student progress, and inform students of critical information essential to their success at Ohlone.
Event Support: Support large campus events and other collaborative efforts as needed.
Other Duties: Perform other duties as assigned that support student success.

Duration:
Apprenticeships are renewable on an annual basis. GAs are eligible to participate in the program for up to three (3) years while enrolled in a qualified educational program. GAs shall work a maximum of 20 hours per week, with the assignment spanning 45 weeks per year, including regular and summer terms.

Assessment:
Progress is measured each semester through direct observation, student surveys, mentoring, and ongoing training sessions, all under the direction and supervision of a college administrator.

Learning Outcomes:
Upon completion of the apprenticeship, GAs will be able to:
• Identify a vast range of student support services and programs.
• Cite eligibility requirements, systems, and processes for student services and programs.
• Implement activities that address and resolve student barriers to entering college, promoting retention and student success.

Minimum Qualifications:
Education: Enrollment in, and in good standing at, a master’s program at a regionally accredited college or university is required.
Communication Skills: Demonstration of effective oral and written communication skills, including presentations.
Technical Skills: Possession of working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite programs.
Organizational Skills: Possession of good record-keeping skills with an attention to detail.

Desirable Qualifications:
• Bilingual competency in Spanish and/or American Sign Language (ASL) preferred.

Working Conditions:
Location: GAs will be assigned to school site(s) within the Ohlone Community College district (Fremont, Newark, Union City).
Hours: The work assignment will consist of a maximum of 20 hours per week over a span of 45 weeks. Approximately sixteen (16) hours will be served at the school site over a minimum of two days per week, and four (4) hours will be assigned at the Ohlone College campus for meetings and training activities.
Transportation: Reliable transportation to and from assigned locations is required.
