Job Description: Gensler Summer Fellowship

This is a full-time, paid summer internship (June 3rd – August 1st, 2025) offering unparalleled learning and networking opportunities. The fellowship focuses on research and thought leadership, contributing to Gensler’s mission of redefining the future of cities.

What You Will Do:

Fellows will work on real projects and research initiatives, helping to advance Gensler’s research efforts. This involves contributing to innovative solutions and addressing challenges in urban design and planning. The work is described as vital to unlocking new thinking, approaches, and pathways to a better future.

Who They Are Looking For:

Gensler seeks ambitious candidates with a design background and a passion for problem-solving using unconventional insights into people, processes, and the places where they intersect. Ideal candidates:

Possess a design background: Experience in designing for the built environment (architecture, interior design, urban design, etc.) is essential.
Demonstrate leadership: Exceptional leadership abilities through past academic and/or professional achievements are required.
Have strong skills: Strong interpersonal, analytical, and problem-solving skills are critical. Comfort in a fast-paced environment and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously is a must. Self-starters, quick learners, and those with an entrepreneurial spirit are preferred.
Meet educational criteria: Candidates must be entering their final year of an undergraduate program (Fall 2025), enrolled in a graduate program, or be a recent graduate (Dec 2024/Spring 2025) in a relevant field (architecture, interior design, urban design, etc.). An accredited degree (NAAB, CIDA, where applicable) is preferred.
Possess relevant skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and Adobe Creative Suite is required. Basic skills in AutoCAD and/or Revit are needed, and 3D/multimedia skills and hand-sketching ability are a plus. Familiarity with research methodologies and processes, user research, design strategy, and space programming is also important.
Show strong communication: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, along with strong graphic and persuasive writing skills are essential.

Application Process:

The application is a two-part process:

Part I: An online application through Gensler’s careers site (Workday), including a resume and portfolio.
Part II: Submission of a portfolio (3-4 curated work samples, PDF, 10MB max) and responses to essay questions via a separate link provided. (Portfolios are required.)

The application period remains open until mid-March 2025, with applications reviewed on a rolling basis.

Compensation:

The internship is paid at a rate of $23-$27.50 per hour, depending on location and year completed in the educational program.
