The Tone:
This is a full-time General Manager role at Hickory, located in Massachusetts. Hickory partners with and transforms leading home service operators using its proprietary AI operating system, building an enduring company designed to last for generations. This role is pivotal as it opens Hickory’s next market in Massachusetts, leading the integration and operational excellence of its first acquisition in the state. The General Manager will set the standard for an employee-first culture and drive significant growth, laying the groundwork for regional expansion within an organization deeply invested in people, operational excellence, and technology.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Lead the full day-to-day operations of Hickory’s initial anchor acquisition in Massachusetts from day one.
• Collaborate closely with the outgoing owner through a transition period to gain comprehensive business, crew, and market understanding.
• Integrate the newly acquired business onto Hickory OS and establish its proven operating rhythm, including Vision Blueprint, Living Playbook, Performance, Leadership, and Drive.
• Adapt the core operational systems and practices to effectively serve a new market and team distinct from Hickory’s existing portfolio.
• Cultivate the success of this foundational business to prepare for future growth into a Regional Manager role.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Manager; deep operational knowledge of trades or field-service businesses.
• Experience: Proven ownership of full day-to-day operations, including P&L, crews, dispatch, and customer experience, for a residential services business; demonstrated 0-to-1 ability in building a company, team, or system.
• Skills: Ability to independently manage and operate a business in a new market while adapting to established systems and culture; strong leadership capabilities, inspiring trust and influence without relying on formal authority; high emotional intelligence, empathy, and clear, concise communication skills (written and verbal); innate problem-solving ability, marked by continuous learning, attention to detail, and persistence through challenges; mental resilience, staying steady under pressure, and a willingness to constructively challenge norms.
• Bonus: Experience from failed ventures or challenging projects, valuing ‘scar tissue’; leadership demonstrated without a formal title; a strong desire to advance into a regional leadership position.
