General Ledger Accountant | Topstep
The Tone:
This is a full-time role at Topstep, with the option of fully remote or hybrid in Chicago, IL. The company provides an engaging work environment where the finance team is growing and evolving. This role supports the monthly close process across a defined set of general ledger areas, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and adherence to close deadlines. • Pay: $75,000–$85,000 annually
• Team: Reports to the GL Manager
• Mission: Ensure accurate and timely general ledger entries and reconciliations for assigned accounting areas, supporting the monthly close process.
• Tech Stack: NetSuite, Emburse, Excel
What You’ll Actually Do
• Lease Accounting: Maintain lease schedules, prepare monthly journal entries in accordance with ASC 842, and reconcile related right-of-use asset and lease liability accounts.
• Expense Management: Process and review employee expense reports via Emburse, reconcile corporate credit card transactions, and ensure policy compliance.
• Bank Transactions: Complete daily and monthly bank transaction uploads into the general ledger, ensuring accurate coding and timely posting.
• Close & Reconciliations: Prepare reconciliations for all assigned general ledger areas, resolving items promptly, and complete close tasks according to the calendar.
• Audit & Compliance: Prepare audit schedules and support requests, maintain audit-ready documentation, and adhere to internal controls and accounting policies.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.
• Experience: 1-3 years of accounting experience, with exposure to month-end close processes and general ledger entries / balance sheet reconciliations.
• Skills: Proficiency in Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP), strong attention to detail, proactive communication, and ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
• Bonus: Familiarity with ASC 842 lease accounting, experience with expense management platforms (e.g., Emburse), and experience with NetSuite or similar ERP system.
