General Ledger Accountant | Celanese

The Tone:
This is a full-time role at Celanese, located in Virginia. Celanese is seeking a General Ledger Accountant to support its US-based Finance team. This role is responsible for executing essential month-end close activities, preparing accurate journal entries, performing thorough account reconciliations, and contributing to financial reporting. Your work will directly ensure the integrity of financial data, supporting sound decision-making and the overall financial health of the organization.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Drive Financial Close: Execute comprehensive monthly, quarterly, and year-end closing activities to ensure timely and accurate financial statements.
• Process Journal Entries: Prepare, meticulously review, and accurately post journal entries, including accruals, allocations, and other necessary accounting adjustments.
• Reconcile Accounts: Perform monthly general ledger account reconciliations, investigating and resolving all reconciling items in a timely manner to maintain data accuracy.
• Support AP/AR Functions: Provide critical support to accounts receivable and accounts payable operations, encompassing tasks such as cash application and associated reconciliations.
• Uphold Accounting Integrity: Maintain and continually optimize accounting procedures, internal controls, and related documentation, while also assisting with internal and external audits to ensure compliance.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance with solid knowledge of accounting, or equivalent relevant experience. This is an early career position.
• Experience: 0-3 years of general ledger accounting experience.
• Skills: Basic Excel proficiency, including the use of formulas and input into financial models; a foundational understanding of accounting principles, month-end close processes, accrual accounting, and financial reporting; strong ability to manage multiple priorities and meet tight deadlines; and a team-oriented mindset with a proactive, result-driven approach.
• Bonus: Experience within a manufacturing, industrial, or multinational environment.
