General Ledger Accountant | Redwood Materials

The Tone:
This is a full-time, early career position at Redwood Materials. Redwood Materials is dedicated to localizing a global battery supply chain by seamlessly integrating recovery, reuse, and recycling. Founded in 2017, the company is focused on keeping critical minerals in circulation and driving the energy transition by delivering low-cost, large-scale energy storage and producing battery materials in the U.S. for the first time, all from existing batteries. This General Ledger Accountant role is vital to supporting the global organization’s financial health, contributing directly to month-end close, financial reporting, and internal controls. It offers a hands-on opportunity for an accountant early in their career to gain broad exposure and real ownership across the full accounting cycle within a rapidly expanding company.

• Team: Part of the general ledger accounting function, collaborating closely with Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, and Financial Planning & Analysis.
• Mission: Support the general ledger accounting function for Redwood’s global organization by contributing to accurate month-end close, comprehensive financial reporting, and robust internal controls.
• Tech Stack: Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Office applications

What You’ll Actually Do
• Support Month-End Close: Prepare journal entries, reconcile accounts, and assist with financial statement preparation as part of the monthly close cycle.
• Maintain General Ledger: Manage the general ledger system by accurately posting journal entries and ensuring the precision of all account balances.
• Prepare Financial Reports: Generate various financial reports and conduct thorough analysis, including variance analysis and trend identification.
• Manage Intercompany Transactions: Process intercompany transactions and meticulously reconcile intercompany balances to resolve any discrepancies.
• Optimize General Ledger Controls: Support the implementation and maintenance of internal controls over the general ledger process and identify opportunities to improve efficiency.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field for an early-career accountant.
• Experience: 1-3 years of relevant accounting and financial reporting experience, with a preference for prior internship or co-op experience.
• Skills: Strong understanding of US GAAP accounting principles and financial reporting requirements; Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications; Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail; Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment; Self-motivated and proactive, with a commitment to continuous learning and professional development.
