General Ledger Accountant | Celanese

The Tone:
This is a full-time role at Celanese, located in Hopewell, VA, where you will support our Finance team in the US. Celanese is a global chemical and specialty materials company, and a significant organization with approximately 6,983 employees worldwide, operating within a manufacturing, industrial, and multinational environment. This General Ledger Accountant position is fundamental to maintaining the integrity and accuracy of the company’s financial records. The role ensures that all financial transactions are correctly recorded, reconciled, and reported, which is critical for informed decision-making and compliance. You will play a vital part in the month-end close process and contribute significantly to the overall financial health and transparency of the organization.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Close Cycles: Perform comprehensive monthly, quarterly, and year-end closing activities to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting.
• Record Keeping: Prepare, review, and accurately post various journal entries, including accruals, allocations, and other essential accounting adjustments.
• Reconciliation: Conduct thorough monthly general ledger account reconciliations, diligently investigating and resolving any identified discrepancies or reconciling items in a timely manner.
• Operational Support: Provide direct support for accounts receivable and accounts payable activities, encompassing cash application, reconciliations, and managing SAP transactions including document reversals.
• Compliance & Optimization: Assist with internal and external audits, and actively contribute to maintaining and optimizing accounting procedures, controls, and documentation.

The Must-Haves
• Background: This role requires a Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance, coupled with a solid foundational knowledge of accounting principles. Equivalent relevant experience will also be thoughtfully considered for candidates without a specific degree. The position is suited for early-career professionals, with the expectation of developing expertise in general ledger accounting within a US Finance team.
• Experience: Candidates should possess 0-3 years of practical general ledger accounting experience. This foundational experience is key to contributing effectively to month-end close and reconciliation activities.
• Skills: Essential skills include a basic understanding of core accounting principles, comprehensive knowledge of month-end close processes, proficiency in accrual accounting, and familiarity with financial reporting standards. Basic Excel skills are also required, specifically the ability to use formulas and input data into financial models effectively. Furthermore, the ideal candidate will demonstrate the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet tight deadlines, exhibiting a team-oriented, proactive, and result-driven mindset.
• Bonus: Prior general ledger accounting experience ideally within a manufacturing, industrial, or multinational environment would be a distinct advantage for this position.
