Lower Columbia College is seeking multiple on-call Food Service Worker Substitutes to support their Head Start program. This role is essential in ensuring children receive healthy, USDA-approved meals and snacks in a safe and sanitary environment.

Job Summary:

As a Food Service Worker Substitute, you will assist with food preparation, serving, dishwashing, and sanitization. You will maintain kitchen cleanliness, organize food portions and supplies for classrooms, and support transportation needs as directed. This position works up to 19 hours per week with a variable schedule based on program needs and reports to the Food Service Manager.

Key Responsibilities:

• Prepare food as directed by the Food Service Manager.
• Serve USDA meals for preschool children.
• Maintain kitchen equipment, serving utensils, food preparation and storage areas in a safe and sanitary manner.
• Calculate accurate quantities of eating utensils and food service material for each classroom.
• Select and organize correct table settings and food portions for each classroom.
• Maintain and use inventory system.
• Understand the needs of children and parents, incorporating them into the food program.
• Participate as an active member of the Food Services Team.
• Work in a professional manner.
• Respect the confidentiality of information as defined in the Confidentiality Policy.
• Exhibit independent work skills, leadership, and flexibility.
• Attend and contribute to staff meetings and Food Service Team meetings.
• In consultation with supervisor, develop professional work goals and training plan.
• Participate in training as requested.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Physical Requirements:

• Seldom: Sitting
• Occasionally: Maintaining sight and sound while preparing and delivering meals, squatting
• Frequently: Extended periods of standing, pushing food carts, using lift gate to transfer food service items, bending over to pick up items, stacking food service items, lifting heavy boxes of bulk food and supplies up to 40lbs, multiple uses of bleach solution for cleaning/sanitizing kitchen and food preparation materials daily/weekly

Minimum Qualifications:

• Valid Driver’s License
• Ability to obtain and maintain a Food Worker Card
• Excellent communication and time management skills
• Ability to work independently and in a team environment
• Ability to perform tasks around children birth to five, while ensuring safety and appropriate interactions/boundaries

Preferred Qualifications:

• High School Diploma or GED
• Experience in Food Services

Requirements Prior to First Day of Employment:

• Washington State Patrol Background Check
• Sex Offender Registry Check
• Finger print card from local law enforcement agency
• TB test
• MMR Vaccine or proof of immunity
• Food Handler’s Card
• Valid driver’s license
