Job Description

The Fleet Engineer rotation program is a comprehensive 3-year program designed for new engineering graduates. The program is structured as follows:

Year 1: Intensive Training (14 Months)

The first 14 months are dedicated to training, offering broad exposure to Solar’s products and the Customer Service organization. This training is a blend of various methods:

  • Classroom and online training
  • Significant hands-on training
  • Structured on-the-job training in the field
  • Mentored controls system training at various Solar locations

Training Locations and Focus Areas:

San Diego, CA (Part of the first 8 months)
  • Administrative modules
  • Safety Training
  • Gas Turbine Package Familiarization training
  • Control Systems training
  • Customer Services Experience
  • On-line web-based training and classroom training
  • Commissioning and maintenance field assignments at customer sites
  • Controls engineering assignment
  • Exposure to the Customer Service Response Center and QHSE training
  • Time in engine teardown, build and test, and field assignments at customer sites
Mabank, TX (Part of the first 8 months)
  • Principles & Applications of Control Systems
  • Borescope of Turbine Engines
  • Power Generation and Gas Compression
  • Rigging & lifting of large components
  • Alignment
  • Routine Maintenance and Troubleshooting
Following 6 Months (After San Diego & Mabank Training)
  • Training on all aspects of Machinery Management Services.
  • Support a Solar Fleet Manager in a U.S. District Office, with a focus on ensuring customer expectations are met or exceeded.

Years 2 & 3: Fleet Engineer Role in a U.S. District Office

After completing the 14 months of training, the candidate must commit to spending 2 additional years at one of our U.S. district offices as a Fleet Engineer. During this period, a company vehicle will be provided for travel.

Fleet Engineer Responsibilities

This is a hands-on position requiring heavy travel, overtime, relocation, extensive customer-interface, and potential offshore assignments. The Fleet Engineer will:

  • Provide technical and administrative support to Fleet Managers in maintaining and managing machinery management Agreements between Solar and customers.
  • Facilitate equipment failure investigations and root cause determination with appropriate groups.
  • Compile and submit engineering reports and analysis to fleet managers for review.
  • Support fleet manager with alert management, preventative action reports, value tracking, and compilation of monthly reports for submission to customers.
  • Participate in and support onsite condition assessments.
  • Support fleet manager with service bulletin compliance and implementation of corrective actions.
  • Follow up on pending issues defined within the issue tracker.
  • Be well-versed in both Solar and customer Health, Safety, Security, and Environment (HSSE) management systems.
  • Ensure compliance with HSSE requirements, best practices, and provide overviews to Field Service Representatives and other personnel visiting customer sites.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum GPA of 2.8 on a 4.0 scale
  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in engineering
  • Must be able and willing to travel, relocate, and work overtime.
  • High integrity and a high level of self-confidence.
  • Ability to handle stress and communicate in a professional manner.
  • 0-2 years related experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Able to work in extreme or adverse environments.
  • Ability to handle stress and work in a high-pressure environment.
  • Previous Internship or related work experience with customer facing activities strongly preferred.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Base salary for this role is $75,500.
