Accountant – Fixed Assets | Michaels Stores

The Tone:
This is a full-time role at Michaels Stores, located in Irving, TX. Michaels Stores operates over 1,300 stores across North America, serving as a leading destination for creativity and celebration. This role is crucial for maintaining the integrity of the fixed asset sub-ledger, contributing to accurate and complete financial statements, and ensuring ongoing Sarbanes-Oxley compliance. The Fixed Asset Accountant supports the Senior Accountant – FA Supervisor in upholding established controls, policies, and procedures.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Reconcile Capital Projects: Reconcile and analyze various Capital Projects, actively researching and resolving discrepancies.
• Prepare Analytical Work Papers: Develop comprehensive analytical work papers, including schedules for Corporate Tax, audits, monthly variances, and roll-forwards.
• Manage Asset Movements: Perform analysis on the asset base and coordinate with business partners on the transfer and retirement of assets.
• Reconcile Balance Sheet Accounts: Reconcile assigned balance sheet accounts, analyzing increases and decreases in asset levels.
• Process Journal Entries: Perform monthly journal entries, including necessary accruals, re-classes, and adjustments.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s degree in accounting with exposure to U.S. GAAP and SOX. This is an early career role.
• Experience: 0 to 2 years of accounting experience.
• Skills: Proficient in Microsoft Excel.
• Bonus: Master of Accountancy, CPA or CMA certification, or experience with Oracle Financials or other large ERP systems.
