Accounting & Finance Intern | The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints

The Tone:
This is an Accounting & Finance Internship at Property Reserve, located in downtown Salt Lake City, UT. Property Reserve functions as the real estate investment arm managing the reserve funds for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, with a strategic focus on generating sustainable cash flow for future needs. The organization responsibly invests in a diverse portfolio of income-generating properties and land, directly supporting the broader mission of the Church. This intern role is pivotal, providing essential support to the Finance and Accounting team by delivering data-driven insights that inform critical business and financial decisions within a sophisticated commercial real estate investment environment.

• Team: Reports to the FP&A Manager within the Finance and Accounting team, collaborating with multiple functions.
• Mission: Support the Finance and Accounting team by assisting with financial reporting, budgeting, data analysis, and accounting projects to inform business and financial decisions.
• Tech Stack: Industry-leading software, data platforms, research tools, financial reporting systems, accounting systems, business intelligence tools, data visualization tools.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Reporting: Assist with the preparation and analysis of budgets, financial reports, reconciliations, and various accounting schedules.
• Analysis: Analyze financial and operational results to identify key trends, variances, and underlying business drivers.
• Data Management: Compile, organize, and thoroughly validate financial data sourced from multiple platforms and systems.
• Presentation: Help prepare comprehensive financial summaries, presentations, and other vital materials for management review.
• Collaboration: Collaborate closely with Finance, Accounting, and other business teams to gather information and enhance the understanding of financial performance.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Candidates must be pursuing or nearing completion of a bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business, economics, or a closely related field. A strong interest in financial planning and analysis, accounting, corporate finance, or commercial real estate is essential for this entry-level position. A non-negotiable requirement for employment is being a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and currently temple worthy.
• Experience: This role requires a solid understanding of fundamental accounting and financial concepts, along with comfort and experience working with various types of financial and operational data.
• Skills: Demonstrated strong Excel proficiency is critical, alongside excellent analytical, quantitative, and problem-solving abilities. The intern must possess the capacity to communicate complex financial information clearly and effectively through written summaries, presentations, and visualizations. Accuracy, attention to detail, and the ability to prioritize assignments and meet deadlines are also key.
• Bonus: An academic degree or specific emphasis in accounting is strongly preferred. Familiarity with financial reporting systems, accounting systems, business intelligence tools, or data visualization tools will also be a significant advantage.
