Financial Analyst | SpaceX

The Tone:
This is a full-time role at SpaceX, located in Austin, TX. SpaceX is actively developing the technologies to make human life on Mars possible, driven by the belief that humanity’s future should involve exploring the stars. This Financial Analyst role is instrumental in the development, tracking, forecasting, reporting, and accounting for all SpaceX projects. It serves as a key financial planning and analysis position with executive-level visibility, directly driving spending and contract profitability across all product lines.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Lead Forecasts: Lead the forecast of key performance indicators, including spending and resource requirements for assigned business groups, such as headcount, capital, and operating expenses.
• Forecast Unit Costs: Forecast future unit costs with cross-functional teams and track progress in achieving cost reduction targets.
• Conduct Ad-hoc Analyses: Conduct ad-hoc analyses as needed to support operational decision-making, from new idea generation through to the implementation phase.
• Drive Financial Modeling: Perform a leading role on internal projects, working closely with peer organizations to understand key business issues and translate them into financial models and metrics.
• Develop Tracking Tools: Develop and enhance tools to track revenue performance and incurred project costs every month, providing insight on spending variances and department-level reporting.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, economics, or engineering. This is an early-career role.
• Experience: 1+ years experience in an accounting, finance, or business role, including internship experience.
• Skills: Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, applied business statistics, and general modeling experience of complex non-linear systems. Strong presentation skills with the ability to regularly interface with executive management and present analytical results across multi-disciplinary organizations, framing unstructured analytical problems for a broad audience.
• Bonus: Experience in a manufacturing or technology environment. Familiarity with reporting, visualization, intelligence, and analysis tools such as SQL, Power BI, or Tableau.
