Finance and Accounting Summer Internship:

This internship program provides hands-on experience in the world of Finance and Accounting at New York Life. It’s a chance to learn from experienced professionals and build your skills in a challenging and supportive environment.

Here’s what you’ll get:

Development and Training: The program starts with classes to enhance your skills in Microsoft Excel, SAP training, and foundational knowledge of the Insurance and Financial Services industry. Weekly seminars, presentations, and public speaking workshops will help you develop business and leadership skills.
Mentorship and Exposure: You’ll be paired with a full-time Finance mentor who will provide guidance and support throughout your internship. You’ll also have the opportunity to interact with senior Finance leaders, including the CFO and Treasurer, through events like breakfasts, presentations, and one-on-one meetings.
Work Experience: Interns are placed in various Corporate Finance and Insurance & Agency Group functions, including:
• Accounting Operations
• Budget & Expense Management
• Financial Planning & Analysis
• Investment Accounting
• Statutory Accounting
• Tax Accounting
• Ratings & Funding
• Capital Management
• Projections
• Treasury
• Data Analytics
• Procurement
Social Events and Networking: You’ll participate in team building activities, networking events, and social gatherings with both fellow interns and full-time employees. Past events have included welcome breakfasts, ice cream socials, scavenger hunts, boat cruises, and a farewell dinner.

What you’ll do:

• Participate in training classes and weekly seminars.
• Work on projects across different Finance departments.
• Develop your communication skills through workshops and presentations.
• Build relationships with mentors and senior leaders.
• Network with other interns across the company.

Requirements:

• Rising junior or in a Graduate program.
• Preferred majors: Accounting, Finance, Economics, Business Analytics.
• Cumulative GPA of 3.2 or higher.
• Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
• Strong communication, interpersonal, and analytical skills.
• A team player with a desire for continuous learning.

Compensation:

Stipend: $26/hour
Overtime eligibility: Nonexempt
Discretionary bonus eligibility: No
Sales bonus eligibility: No
