Job Description: Federal Protective Service Officer (PSO)

BTI Security is seeking dedicated and highly qualified individuals for the position of Federal Protective Service Officer (PSO). As a PSO, you will be responsible for ensuring the safety and security of federal buildings, employees, and visitors by actively protecting principals against potential threats, monitoring security systems, and responding to emergencies. This role requires exceptional vigilance, strong communication skills, and the ability to act decisively in critical situations.

Job Skills / Requirements

  • Protect the principal against possible threats.
  • Perform federal building access control, including employee and visitor identification checks.
  • Monitor security equipment and conduct roving patrols of the interior and exterior of federal property.
  • Monitor surveillance cameras for any disruptions or unlawful activities.
  • Provide detailed reports on daily activities and/or incidents that may have occurred.
  • Knowledgeable and able to effectively use magnetometer and X-ray machines.
  • Use provided communication devices, such as two-way radios, in a clear and concise manner.
  • Leverage excellent listening and service skills in emergency response and evaluation procedures.
  • Perform CPR or first aid when needed.
  • Ensure credentials are maintained per contract requirements.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Supervisor and and/or Project Manager.

Minimum Requirements

  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Must be able to obtain suitability and/or clearance.
  • Be a United States citizen; or a Lawful Permanent Resident who is currently a member of, or who possesses a verifiable honorable discharge from, any component of the United States Armed Forces (Army, Air Force, Navy, Marines, Coast Guard).
  • Been issued a Social Security Card by the Social Security Administration, which bears the individual’s name and social security number.
  • A minimum of two (2) years of security (armed) experience or one (1) year of law enforcement experience in a full-duty status with a full-service police department in a municipality, state, or federal law enforcement department within the US.
  • A minimum of two (2) years as a member of any US Armed Forces with an honorable discharge.
  • Must be able to fluently speak, read, comprehend English, and be able to compose written reports in English.
  • Must be able to qualify with a revolver or semi-automatic.
  • Must possess strong relevant knowledge of the security industry.
  • Be able to demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must have a customer service-driven mindset.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and present information to all levels of internal and external customers.

Physical Demands

PSOs shall be physically able to perform tasks in performance of assigned duties, including:

  • Frequent and prolonged walking, standing, sitting, and stooping up to 12 hours per day, either indoors or outdoors.
  • Frequent contact with the general public, law enforcement, and dispatch center, requiring an ability to speak clearly and distinctly and remain calm in stressful situations.
  • Ability to remain on post up to four (4) consecutive hours without sitting, eating, or receiving a break.
  • Ability to remain alert for up to 12 hours, with the ability to mentally and physically react quickly to a variety of unexpected and dangerous situations.
  • Ability to subdue violent or potentially violent or disturbed individuals, or intervene in a crisis.
  • Occasional running, sprinting, lifting heavy weights, moving heavy objects, climbing stairs.
