Fashion Business and Marketing Internship | The Fashion Foundation
The Tone:
This is an internship at The Fashion Foundation, located in Suffolk County, NY. The Fashion Foundation is a unique nonprofit organization that collaborates with leading fashion brands and designers to redirect excess merchandise, transforming it into vital educational support for students in need. By selling designer samples and products at accessible prices, the organization funds essential school supplies, having recycled over 200,000 pounds of goods and positively impacted more than 40,000 children. This role is integral to the organization’s mission, supporting its daily retail operations and marketing efforts, which directly contribute to providing uniforms, backpacks, and art supplies to students throughout the year.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Retail Operations: Support essential day-to-day shop operations, including the organization and presentation of inventory and preparing donated items for sale.
• Customer Engagement: Assist customers with product inquiries, provide information about the organization’s mission, and help facilitate their shopping experience.
• Digital Content Creation: Draft compelling social media content and provide support for email campaigns designed to engage the community and promote the mission.
• Event and Initiative Promotion: Actively contribute to promoting various events and initiatives that showcase the organization’s mission and impact.
• Project Participation: Offer basic sales support, assist with data entry tasks, and participate in special projects that foster connections between fashion industry partners and the charitable programs.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Foundational skills or a demonstrated interest in Fashion, Fashion Design, or Fashion Styling, coupled with a proactive willingness to learn about merchandising and product presentation specifically in a retail environment.
• Experience: Comfort and aptitude for basic sales activities, including engaging customers, effectively discussing products, and supporting point-of-sale processes. This includes an interest in social media, digital marketing, and brand storytelling within the fashion and nonprofit sectors.
• Skills: Strong communication, organization, and time-management abilities, with a keen attention to detail essential for a retail environment. The ability to work on-site in Suffolk County, NY, collaborate effectively within a small team, and demonstrate professionalism with brand partners and school staff is also required.
• Bonus: Currently enrolled student or a recent graduate from a program in fashion, marketing, business, communications, or a closely related field is preferred.
