Job Description:

This is an Internship/Co-Op opportunity with TECO Energy, offered for the Fall 2025 semester, within the Unified Comms, IT Operations department. The program provides college students the chance for professional growth and practical experience complementing their education.

Position Summary/Details:

The intern/co-op will collaborate and assist the team that Designs, implements, and maintains all components of Database Management Systems (DBMSs). The incumbent will learn to plan, organize and coordinate database–related projects and maintenance activities. The incumbent will assist in analyzing and visualizing data, building reports and dashboards for internal departmental use.

Accountabilities:

• Assist the DBA team in performing database-related activities in support of development projects or off-the-shelf software implementations.
• Monitor database backup queues and alerts with oversight from more senior DBA staff. Perform database recovery and restoration as instructed.
• Collaborate as part of a team in project planning activities for database upgrades. Perform data analysis and create project documentation.
• Execute mitigation plans for vulnerabilities discovered and logged in Service Management tools with oversight from senior DBA staff.
• Enforce database standards and procedures for primary DBMS products in use at TECO Energy.

Physical Location:

• 1898 Nuccio Parkway, Tampa – Ybor Data Center 2nd Floor (Prior to August 2025)
• Bearss Operations Center (August 2025)

Qualifications:

• Education: Enrolled in an ABET accredited university as a college undergraduate or a graduate level post-secondary educational program in a related discipline.
• Co-Op Requirements:
• To qualify as a co-op student, enrollment in the university’s co-op program (proof of enrollment required); if not eligible for co-op program (or program unavailable), the student will be considered an intern.
• A minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale is required.
• Degree: Information Technology, Computer Science / Engineering, Management Information Systems, or a related technology discipline
• Year In School: No preference

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Experience working with Microsoft Tools – MS Excel
• Knowledge of basic concepts for Information Technology
• Good writing and communication skills

Working Conditions:

• Mostly in a normal office environment
• Part – Time (20-30 hours)
