Jersey Cares is a nonprofit organization established in 1993. Its core mission is to recruit and engage volunteers in effective efforts that address community-identified needs. Jersey Cares collaborates with local nonprofits to identify specific needs and then implements volunteer projects to meet those needs. They provide a wide variety of volunteer opportunities for individuals, families, corporate employees, and community groups, ranging from environmental initiatives like planting flowers in public parks to educational support like painting murals in schools.
Job Description
Job Title: External Affairs Internship
Location: Livingston, NJ
Schedule:
• Opportunities available for Fall 2025
• 10 hours per week
• Flexible work schedule
• Ideal candidates are available from the beginning of September through the end of January to specifically support the Jersey Cares Coat Drive and MLK Day of Service.
• Includes the ability to occasionally work early mornings and late evenings.
Compensation: $20 per hour
Reporting To: Both the Corporate Service and Volunteer Programs teams.
About the Role:
This Jersey Cares Internship is ideal for individuals passionate about advancing volunteerism, learning about Nonprofit Partners, and improving the lives of others. It seeks team players interested in a career in the nonprofit sector who thrive in fast-paced environments. External Affairs Interns will gain valuable workforce experience while creating tangible change in the community.
Key Responsibilities:
• Support Jersey Cares’ collection drives, including the Halloween Costume Drive, Jersey Cares Coat Drive, First Night Kit Program, Diaper Drive, and Animal Shelter Helpers.
• Facilitate and lead volunteer projects with nonprofits and local community organizations across the state through the Volunteer Opportunity Calendar and Corporate Service Program.
• Organize pre- and post-event materials for Corporate Service projects.
• Train as a Project Coordinator, with the ability to continue earning leadership experience post-internship.
• Opportunity to support creation of social media content for delivery across Jersey Cares media platforms.
Qualifications:
• A flexible schedule, including the ability to occasionally work early mornings and late evenings.
• Interest in event-planning; experience is preferred.
• Strong communication skills and a professional demeanor.
• Ability to multi-task and a strong attention to detail.
• Excellent time management skills and ability to work independently.
• Proven experience with Microsoft applications, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
• Access to a vehicle for daily use.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
• Experience with Salesforce and Canva/PicMonkey is a plus.
• Creative and passionate about making a difference.
