About the Role – Software Engineering Intern:
An intern working with our Software Engineering team will gain practical experience by helping to complete basic end-to-end software engineering tasks. This role involves performing fundamental analysis, development, testing, debugging, configuration, incident investigation, documentation, health monitoring/alerting, and implementation based on user or system design specifications. You will work within established team guidelines to independently tackle well-scoped problems and seek opportunities to expand your technical knowledge and capabilities.

Essential Functions:

  • Works towards day-to-day objectives with a moderate impact on the immediate work area.
  • Operates with direct supervision on projects and assignments, setting objectives for your own responsibilities to align with project and assignment goals.
  • Addresses general problems and issues that may require understanding a broader set of contexts.
  • Solves problems that may span various issues or work areas, typically through exercising discretion and judgment, drawing from prior experiences, and analyzing the issue at hand.

Technical Knowledge/Skill/Education/Licenses/Certifications:

Required:

  • Currently enrolled in a four-year accredited university program.
  • Effectively uses code version control systems such as Git.
  • Understands basic programming and Object-Oriented Programming (OOP) concepts.
  • Understands core application development patterns.
  • Experienced using data structures.
  • Familiar with traditional data stores.
  • Familiar with REST API syntax and tools for documenting and testing REST APIs such as Swagger and Postman.
  • Familiar with Agile methodology.
  • Possesses theoretical knowledge of the work area.
  • Ability to work autonomously with limited supervision.
  • Displays a strong work ethic.
  • Understands provided direction and effectively implements assigned tasks.
  • Demonstrates project/team level impact.
  • Troubleshoots simple engineering problems by checking logs, using developer tools, and effectively utilizing a debugger.
  • Able to use existing knowledge of algorithms, structures, and patterns to design and implement solutions of light to moderate complexity.
  • Objectively evaluates whether goals have been met.
  • Communicates effectively during meetings.
  • Completes work or raises roadblocks in a timely manner.

Preferred Experience:

  • Experience using TypeScript and Node.js.
  • Familiar with Microfrontends and Microservices architectures.
  • Experience with React.
  • Experience with SQL Server and writing Stored Procedures.
  • Experience using Azure Cloud Services.
  • Experience using Azure Dev-Ops.
  • Knowledge of .NET Framework 4.x and .NET Core 3.x.
  • Experience using Visual Studio utilizing the C# programming language.

Compensation & Employment Status:
Interns are paid through our Managed Service Provider Program and are not direct employees of Eversource. Pay rates are hourly, based on your year of graduation and whether the role is technical or non-technical. Rates start at $18.12 for a non-technical freshman and go up to $41.82 for a technical PhD candidate.

Responding to emergency situations to meet customers’ needs is part of every employee’s role. If employed, you will be given an Emergency Restoration assignment. This means you may be called to assist during an emergency outside of your normal responsibilities, work hours, and location.
