Job Description

This internship is for an ET Planning Intern within Dominion Energy’s ET Planning team.

Job Summary:
The intern will support the development of transmission expansion plans. The primary goals of these plans are to ensure system reliability, meet future customer demand, and contribute to achieving Dominion Energy’s net zero carbon emissions goal by 2050. This role provides a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in electric utility planning and engineering, specifically within the PJM Regional Transmission Expansion Planning Process (RTEPP).

Key Responsibilities:
• Assisting in evaluating transmission system needs and developing expansion plans.
Collaborating with internal teams (ET Planning, Operations Engineering, Substation Execution) and external stakeholders (PJM, Electric Distribution Companies).
• Supporting the development of transmission solutions for new substations and data centers.
• Contributing to competitive FERC Order 1000 processes by proposing innovative and cost-effective solutions.
• Helping to prepare project scopes, justifications, and presentations for internal and external approvals.
• Participating in meetings and discussions with PJM and regulatory bodies.
• Performing other duties as assigned to support the team’s objectives.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience:
• A strong understanding of engineering principles and practices.
• Passion for solving difficult technical problems, providing innovative solutions, and taking ownership of solutions.
• A working knowledge of analysis software packages such as PSS\E, Python, Power Gem’s TARA software, Aspen One-Liner, etc., is preferred.
• General understanding of AC/DC fundamentals, including an understanding of three-phase power systems.
• Interest in electric utility systems, encompassing Generation, Transmission, and Distribution.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
• An analytical mindset with attention to detail.
• A self-motivator who can work cooperatively in a team environment but is also comfortable independently seeking knowledge and information.

Education Requirements:
• Must have earned a bachelor’s degree in an engineering field.
• Must be accepted to and actively working on a master’s or Ph.D. degree in engineering. Preferred fields include electrical engineering with a concentration in power systems, computer engineering, or mechanical engineering with a focus on energy systems.
• The degree must be from an ABET accredited Engineering program at a four-year or post-graduate college or university.
• Candidates must maintain a minimum GPA of 3.2.
• Students must have a graduation date of Winter 2026, Spring 2027, or Winter 2027.
