Enterprise Risk Management Intern | Group 1001
The Tone:
This is a hybrid internship at Group 1001, located in Zionsville, IN, with an expected start date during the first week of September. Group 1001 is a consumer-centric, technology-driven family of insurance companies focused on delivering value and performance through financial strength, insurance expertise, and a collaborative culture. This role matters as it offers hands-on experience with Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) frameworks, risk identification, and assessment processes within a dynamic corporate environment. Interns will gain real-world experience directly applicable to careers in risk management, consulting, finance, or corporate strategy.
The TL;DR

• Mission: Support the risk management team in maintaining and enhancing the organization’s risk capabilities.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Facilitate: Support the facilitation of risk assessments, metrics, and data collection with various stakeholders across the organization.
• Maintain: Help maintain and update the risk register, ensuring accurate recording of risk ratings, owners, and mitigation plans.
• Research: Conduct research on emerging risks, including areas like cybersecurity, geopolitical shifts, and evolving regulatory landscapes.
• Develop: Assist in developing comprehensive risk dashboards, heat maps, and other reporting materials for presentation to senior management.
• Participate: Contribute to cross-functional meetings to understand and observe how risk is managed across different departments such as IT, Finance, Operations, and Legal.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Currently enrolled as a junior or senior pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Risk Management & Insurance, or related fields such as Finance, Business Administration, Economics, Accounting, or Data Analytics. Sophomores in Risk Management & Insurance with advanced coursework and strong GPAs will be considered. Minimum GPA of 3.0 or equivalent.
• Experience: Genuine interest in enterprise risk management, corporate governance, or compliance, demonstrated through coursework in risk management, finance, statistics, data analytics, or internal audit.
• Skills: Strong analytical and critical thinking abilities, excellent written and verbal communication skills, proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word), high attention to detail, and organizational skills.
• Bonus: Experience with data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI) or GRC platforms, and prior internship or project experience in finance, consulting, audit, or compliance.
