Equity Research Intern | Bactria Capital

The Tone:
This is a remote, unpaid Equity Research Intern role offered through the Bactria Research Program at Bactria Capital, a proprietary trading firm headquartered in Houston, Texas. The firm exclusively deploys internal capital, integrating fundamental research with quantitative analysis to identify opportunities across global markets. Reflecting its namesake, ancient Bactria, the firm’s core idea is to bring different strategies, disciplines, and perspectives together under a single approach to risk. This program is designed as a focused educational experience, enabling participants to develop professional-grade research deliverables under expert guidance, crucial for early-career financial roles.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Train: Complete comprehensive training during weeks 1 and 2, mastering the core equity research toolkit, including how to read the three financial statements, understand valuation fundamentals, refine research writing, and perform effective data sourcing.
• Assess: Conclude the initial training period by successfully completing a short assessment, verifying your grasp of the fundamental concepts.
• Research: Select a specific company with expert guidance in weeks 3 and 4, then diligently build your in-depth coverage to inform your investment thesis.
• Produce: Develop a high-quality written research report and a compelling stock pitch on your chosen company, crafting finished deliverables suitable for any recruiter or interviewer.
• Review: Submit your completed research report and stock pitch to the firm, engaging directly with experienced professionals to receive detailed, line-by-line written feedback and guidance.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Student pursuing a degree in Finance, Economics, Business, or a closely related field; the program welcomes all undergraduates, including freshmen and sophomores, demonstrating an interest in equity research.
• Experience: No prior professional experience is required, but a strong interest in markets and investing, coupled with a willingness to learn financial modeling and valuation techniques, is essential.
• Skills: Possess strong analytical capabilities, excellent written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to work effectively and independently in a remote work environment.
