Job Description
This is a hands-on, lab-based role primarily focused on environmental sample collection and providing routine laboratory support.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform environmental monitoring within controlled cleanroom and process areas to ensure strict compliance with environmental and aseptic standards.
- Collect environmental samples from high-purity water systems, clean steam, and compressed gases as part of routine monitoring schedules.
- Support daily lab operations, including cleaning controlled temperature units (CTUs), operating the autoclave, and assisting with general laboratory upkeep.
- Assist with equipment-related activities, such as coordinating calibration and maintenance, to ensure operational readiness and regulatory compliance.
- Utilize the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) for efficient sample logging, tracking, and meticulous data documentation.
- Participate in rotating schedules, which may include overtime, weekends, holidays, and on-call coverage, to ensure comprehensive 24/7 operational support.
Cleanroom Requirements
Adherence to strict cleanroom protocols is mandatory:
- No cosmetics (including makeup or false eyelashes) may be worn; all must be fully removed prior to entry into the cleanroom.
- Nails must be kept short and unpolished; artificial nails, polish, or any decorations are strictly prohibited.
- No jewelry is permitted, with the sole exception of one smooth ring band or approved medical alert items.
- Hair must be fully secured in a hairnet; any facial hair must be neatly trimmed and completely covered with a beard cover.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Biology or a related scientific field OR an Associate’s degree in Life Sciences combined with relevant industry experience.
- Physical Demands: Demonstrated strong work ethic and the ability to meet physical demands, including:
- Lifting items weighing 25 lbs or more.
- Walking and standing for extended periods.
- Pushing/pulling carts and equipment.
- Bending and reaching for supplies as needed.
- Skills & Aptitude: Ability to learn new techniques quickly, effectively manage multiple tasks, maintain accurate records, and consistently follow instructions and company policies.
- Technical Proficiency: Proficiency in computer systems, strong organizational skills, and a solid scientific aptitude.
- Communication: Excellent oral and written communication skills with strong attention to detail.
- Work Ethic: Ability to work independently and collaboratively, demonstrating high self-motivation, adaptability, and a positive attitude.
- Work Authorization: Must be authorized to work in the United States indefinitely without restriction or sponsorship.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior experience within pharmaceutical or biotechnology environments.
- Familiarity with microbial identification procedures.
- Environmental monitoring experience is a significant advantage.
- Understanding of cGMP (current Good Manufacturing Practice) regulations.
- Experience with Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS).
Additional Information
This is a full-time, onsite position structured around a second-shift schedule: Sunday through Wednesday, 12:30 PM – 11:00 PM. Overtime will be required as needed to support operational demands. Initial training will occur Monday through Friday from 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM. Candidates located within a commutable distance to Rensselaer, New York, are strongly encouraged to apply.
