Job Description

This role is for an Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) Intern within Caterpillar Inc., targeting students and recent graduates.

About The Role:
Caterpillar’s EHS Intern program is designed for students currently enrolled in a four-year university. Interns will work closely with EHS professionals, gaining practical experience and applying their knowledge to various project work within their assigned teams. The program offers valuable learning opportunities, the chance to connect with professionals across the company, explore different Caterpillar areas, enhance business skills through interactions with teams and partners, develop presentation abilities, and build connections with EHS peers and leaders.

What You Will Do:
Interns will join a team with diverse project responsibilities. This is a 40-hour-per-week assignment lasting 12 weeks. Experiences will include, but are not limited to:
• Contributing to safety and environmental culture initiatives.
• Participating in the development of proactive programs.
• Assisting in the delivery of EHS learning to facilities worldwide.
• Conducting trend analysis of global environmental or safety data in line with Caterpillar’s Sustainability Goals.
Interns will also have valuable networking opportunities with employees at all levels within Caterpillar.

Successful candidates will possess and contribute the following skills:
Analytical skills, including initiating ideas, troubleshooting, root cause analysis, problem-solving, and critical thinking capabilities.
• Ability to organize and manage multiple projects simultaneously, with the capacity to quickly gain and effectively apply new skills and knowledge.
• Demonstrated success in collaborating with individuals of diverse cultures, interpersonal styles, and abilities.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Internship Program Qualifications:
To be eligible for this internship, candidates must meet the following criteria:
• Currently pursuing an accredited Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in one of the following programs: Occupational and Environmental Health Sciences, Environmental and Ecological Engineering, Environmental and Natural Resources Engineering, Environmental Sciences, Natural Resources and Environmental Science, or a related Environmental Health and Safety discipline at the time of application.
Selected candidates must obtain their degree before they start the internship (this suggests it might be targeted at those graduating soon, or is an error in the description for an internship).
• Must have 30 completed semester hours before the start of the internship.
• If a transfer student, must have 12 semester hours completed at a 4-year university.
• A minimum 2.8/4.0 Cumulative Grade Point Average (no rounding) at their current institution.
• Ability to relocate to the indicated work location for the duration of the internship and complete a daily work commute using reliable transportation.

Top Candidates Can Also Have (Preferred):
Project or Team Leadership experience.
Previous internship, co-op, or research/relevant experience.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

Additional Information:

• This position requires working onsite five days a week.

Pay & Benefits:
Summary Pay Range: The hourly rate for interns ranges from $22.50 to $39.00.
Intern Hour Rate: The specific hourly rate is determined based on the major/degree being pursued and the number of completed academic hours achieved before the internship begins.
