Job Summary: Environmental Engineer
Langan is seeking a collaborative Environmental Engineer to join our team in Chicago. This role involves a majority of time spent in the field, with occasional office work. You will play a key function in both small-scale and large-scale environmental land development projects, with opportunities to partner across various disciplines in a continuous learning environment.
Job Responsibilities
- Assist with the planning and execution of field investigations, including logging borings, collecting samples, performing field tests, and accurately collecting and recording data.
- Monitor construction projects, conducting various tests to evaluate contractor or subcontractor compliance with job specifications.
- Identify and implement solutions to both routine and more complex field and/or laboratory problems, accurately documenting results.
- Prepare reports documenting field investigations and analytical results. Prepare a variety of standard logs and field forms (e.g., drilling logs, field investigation dailies, and chain of custody logs).
- Learn data management and modeling tools for environmental media, how to perform engineering analyses, and how to properly use field equipment.
- Perform other duties as requested.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering.
- 0-2 years of work-related experience.
- EIT Certification or current registration for the FE exam preferred.
- Prior relevant internship or professional work experience preferred.
- Strong technical education, professional demeanor, and desire to learn.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong attention to detail with excellent analytical, multitasking, and judgment capabilities.
- Ability to effectively work independently and in a team environment.
- Possess a valid driver’s license in good standing and reliable transportation access to remote job site locations.

The estimated salary range for this role is: $65,000 – $84,500. Actual compensation may vary based on factors such as related work experience, location, market conditions, education/training, certifications and other credentials, as well as applicable knowledge and skills. Certain roles may be eligible for overtime and participation in the firm’s annual bonus and performance review program. Bonuses are discretionary and based on individual job performance and the profitability of the firm.
