Job Title: Environmental Consulting Intern

Location: Ideally, Austin or Houston, TX offices, but other Texas locations will be considered for the right candidate.
Wood is currently recruiting for a motivated Environmental Consulting Intern to join its diverse team of professionals. This role is specifically designed to support scopes of work within the Wind, Solar, and Battery Storage industries, offering regular interaction with team members across at least five countries.
The Environmental Consulting Intern will be instrumental in supporting the delivery of multidisciplinary projects through their feasibility, pre-construction, and/or construction phases. A primary focus will be on the environmental and permitting aspects of these projects. The successful candidate will act as a consultant, supporting solar PV, onshore wind, storage, and green hydrogen scopes as an integral part of a project development team.
Responsibilities
- Conduct environmental field studies including (but not limited to) wetland delineations, protected species habitat assessments, and Phase 1 Environmental Site Assessments in diverse and challenging landscapes throughout Texas and surrounding areas.
- Support the delivery of renewable energy project development scopes in accordance with pre-defined budgets, deadlines, and quality requirements.
- Utilize Geographic Information Systems (GIS) to analyze spatial data, create maps, and evaluate potential constraints on renewable energy development.
- Author and contribute to technical documents, reports, and permit applications.
- Ensure health, safety, and environmental considerations are integral to the delivery of projects and project tasks.
- Support environmental permitting efforts with federal, state, and local regulatory agencies.
- Provide technical and logistical support to Wood and subcontractor field personnel.
- Regularly and accurately report the status of projects to Renewable Energy’s management.
- Contribute to a team of multi-disciplined specialists to design, develop, and deliver renewable energy project scopes on behalf of clients.
- Contribute to business development activities and assist in securing new opportunities for the company.
- Support the development and implementation of new tools, processes, and systems to ensure effective project execution and delivery.
- Ensure regulatory requirement compliance pertaining to data integrity, documentation, procedures, training, monitoring systems, reporting, and record compliance and retention.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Ecology, or a Natural Resources related discipline. A Master’s degree is considered an asset.
- Work Environment: Ability to work effectively in both field and office settings, with a willingness to conduct regular fieldwork which may involve varied terrain in all weather conditions.
- Industry Interest: Demonstrated interest in the renewable energy sector.
- Regulatory Knowledge: Solid understanding of the Clean Water Act, Endangered Species Act, and the National Environmental Policy Act.
- Technical Skills:
- Proficient in GIS software and applications.
- Proficient in the use of MS Office Suite (particularly Word and Excel).
- Knowledge of SharePoint, Powerpoint, PowerApps, and PowerBI is viewed as an asset.
- Soft Skills:
- Excellent time management, communication, and organizational skills.
- A flexible and proactive approach to completing work.
- Well-developed critical thinking and problem-solving skills required to reach conclusions from testing results, data collation, and identify the most effective solutions to accomplish objectives of assigned projects.
- Proactive approach to team communications, issue identification and troubleshooting, and lesson’s learned logs.
- Legal Requirements:
- Valid driving license for use within USA.
- Must be a US Citizen, or authorized to work lawfully in the US, without sponsorship from Wood.
