Environmental Assistant

Join our dedicated team as an Environmental Assistant and play a vital role in supporting our Environmental Specialists with critical daily operations. This position offers an excellent opportunity for motivated individuals to gain hands-on experience in environmental monitoring, data management, policy assistance, and community engagement.

Purpose of the Position

The primary purpose of the Environmental Assistant is to provide comprehensive support to Environmental Specialists by performing a diverse range of duties. These responsibilities encompass conducting field inspections, performing environmental monitoring, ensuring quality control, managing data entry, crafting detailed reports, undertaking insightful data analysis, and contributing to the development and implementation of Sustainability and Climate Control policies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct routine stormwater inspections of city outfalls to ensure regulatory compliance and identify potential environmental concerns.
  • Perform thorough stream monitoring activities, collecting essential data on water quality, flow rates, and ecosystem health.
  • Manage and accurately enter data for various water quality programs, ensuring the integrity and accessibility of environmental information.
  • Create comprehensive and informative reports based on collected data, contributing to environmental assessments, compliance documentation, and strategic decision-making.
  • Assist in the planning and execution of environmental educational programs, such as “Get Fit” and “Storm Water Education,” fostering community awareness and engagement.
  • Provide exceptional customer service, interacting professionally with citizens and city employees to address inquiries and provide information related to environmental quality initiatives.
  • Undertake various other tasks as may be assigned from time to time by the Environmental Quality Manager, demonstrating adaptability and a proactive approach to team support.

Minimum Requirements & Qualifications

  • Education: High school diploma or GED is required. Candidates currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Geology, or a similar relevant scientific field are strongly encouraged to apply. Recent graduates from these fields will also be given full consideration.
  • License: Must possess a valid Texas Class C Driver’s License.
  • Availability: Demonstrated flexibility to work after hours and on weekends as needed to meet operational demands and project deadlines.

Work Schedule

This is a part-time position requiring a minimum commitment of 20 hours per week.
