Entry Level Software Engineer/Software Developer | Amentum

The Tone:
This is an early career role at Amentum, primarily located in Fredericksburg, VA or Dahlgren, VA, with occasional telecommuting or travel opportunities. Amentum is a leading global provider of technical and engineering services to government and commercial customers. The company delivers innovative solutions to complex challenges in the defense, intelligence, and civilian markets. This position supports Naval Research Operations by developing software for a current Naval program, modernizing systems, and expanding the organization’s Modeling & Simulation capabilities.

The TL;DR

• Location: Fredericksburg, VA or Dahlgren, VA
• Pay: $65000–$85000 yearly
• Team: Agile Software Development team (7 or less developers)
• Mission: Modernize software for Naval Research systems and technology by creating new software or converting existing code.
• Tech Stack: C++, Matlab, Java, Python, C#

What You’ll Actually Do
• Develop Naval software: Create new software or convert existing code from languages such as C++, Matlab, Java, or Python to C++, Python, or other languages for Naval Research systems.
• Contribute to Agile development: Plan, perform, and lead software design, coding, and testing activities within an adaptive Agile environment.
• Document system requirements: Develop and verify software system specifications and requirements documentation.
• Enhance software capabilities: Develop support system software capabilities, features, or enhancements for Naval programs.
• Expand M&S capacity: Build, maintain, and help expand the organization’s Simulation/Stimulation (Sim/Stim) and Modeling & Simulation (M&S) capabilities and development tools.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Mathematics, Computer Science, or Physics. This is an early career role.
• Experience: Experience with and proficiency in at least one Object-Oriented Programming (OOP) language.
• Skills: C/C++, C# (C Sharp), Java, or Python.
• Bonus: C++, Python, or Java experience; any DOD experience in programs or operations. Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance (US Citizenship required).
