Summary

This position requires current enrollment in an accredited college or university, pursuing a Bachelor’s degree with major coursework in a field related to the departmental and/or specific work assignment.

Essential Job Functions (Installation and Development Services (IDS) Division)

  • Participate in the various phases of plan review, construction inspection, and acceptance processes for privately-funded (donated) water and wastewater infrastructure projects, including water and sewer connections.
  • Become familiar with the regulatory requirements for water and sanitary sewer infrastructure that may be applicable through laws, ordinances, regulations, and standards.

Minimum Requirements To Perform Work

  • Must be currently enrolled in an engineering or construction management program with coursework relevant to the major duties and responsibilities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Exposure to design, installation, or maintenance of water and sanitary sewer (wastewater) infrastructure and/or project management of infrastructure projects.

Licenses, Certifications Or Registrations

  • Requires a valid driver’s license.

Knowledge, Skills And Abilities

  • Knowledge of fundamental engineering principles applied to project planning, design and/or construction of water and wastewater infrastructure.
  • Skill in communication, both verbally and in writing.
  • Skill in Microsoft Office Suite products and outputs.
  • Ability to plan, prioritize and organize work and complete assignments with supervision.
  • Ability to work well with others in a team environment.
  • Ability to read and interpret design plans.
  • Ability to interact courteously and cooperatively in teams.
  • Ability to learn hydraulic, geospatial information system, and project management software packages such as: ArcPro, AutoCAD, Infoworks ICM, and e-Builder.
  • Ability to apply fundamental engineering principles to project design or planning.

Physical Demands

The work is categorized as light work, requiring the application of 10 pounds of force frequently and up to 20 pounds of force occasionally to move objects. Required physical abilities include feeling, perceiving sounds at normal speaking levels, discriminating among sounds, mental acuity, speaking, standing, talking, visual acuity in data/color/observations/equipment/inspections, and walking.

Work Environment

Work is performed in a dynamic environment that demands sensitivity to change and responsiveness to evolving goals, priorities, and needs. Occasional on-call emergency work is required.
