Job Description: Engineering Internship

Cargill offers Engineering Internships at various production facilities across the United States. These internships are designed to provide real-world experience and prepare students for their careers. Interns are integrated into a supportive community with access to learning resources, mentorship, and development courses. Specific Roles within the Engineering Internship:

Interns will gain experience in either an Operations Leadership or Maintenance & Reliability Engineering role. Potential future career paths based on this internship experience include:

Production Management Engineers: These engineers lead people, processes, and input/output in a plant environment. Responsibilities include direct supervision of operators, participation in daily production meetings, managing government regulations and compliance, team development (including hiring and employee relations), process optimization, equipment and process reliability, and capital projects.

Environmental Engineers: These engineers work with various teams and assets related to plant operations, specifically refrigeration, steam, water, and compressed air systems. They may manage a wastewater treatment plant (WWTP), environmental compliance programs, and regulatory permitting. Responsibilities include supervision of operators and technicians, daily work planning, and involvement in maintenance and capital projects.

Process/Project Engineers: These engineers handle business case development, vendor selection, budget management, and project management for major projects and improvements related to process optimization, safety, quality, infrastructure, and energy use. They participate in innovation processes, idea generation, and reliability-centered design, implementing initiatives from global development groups and research.

Maintenance & Reliability Engineers: These engineers engage teams, improve processes, and manage assets to minimize downtime and repair costs. They may supervise specialized teams, lead planning activities, and utilize tools like Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM), Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA), Root Cause Analysis (RCA), 5S, and 5-Why to prevent equipment failures.

Internship Program Details:

Duration: Typically 12 weeks (Summer 2025 – May/June to August).
Compensation: $25.00 – $34.70 per hour, with potential for overtime.
Location: Various plant locations across the U.S. (relocation required). Specific locations listed in the original text.
Physical Demands: The job involves physical activity, including lifting (up to 50+ pounds occasionally), bending, stooping, and exposure to various environmental conditions (heat, cold, dust, etc.).
Programming: The internship includes events focused on leadership development, networking, and cross-functional collaboration. High-performing interns may be offered a second internship or a full-time position. Interns receive paid time off for volunteer activities.
