About the Internship Experience
ofi’s internship program is a great way to gain relevant experience and jump-start your career. As a Summer 2026 Intern, you will learn and contribute to a global organization, build a robust network, demonstrate leadership skills, and have some fun along the way.
This internship will provide an opportunity to work for a global food company and develop an understanding of the equipment and processes that contribute to new product development and process optimization.
The Engineering Intern Role
Reporting to the Engineering Manager, the Engineering Intern will learn about the spices business as they contribute to developing the next generation of food processing at ofi. They will conduct research and analysis to support and streamline process improvement, as well as work hands-on with our factory and engineering teams.
An ideal candidate should enjoy learning about food processing technology and getting hands-on with data collection & analysis. A good fit would be an individual who is a good collaborator with a high level of curiosity, a drive to improve equipment and process designs, and keen attention to detail.
Key Responsibilities
- Partner with factory operations teams to collect process data and perform analysis to identify improvement opportunities.
- Develop project scopes in relation to compliance type projects.
- Establish studies and define scopes on key initiatives like mass air balance, water flow, and equipment optimization.
- Collect and analyze production and trial data; provide observations and recommendations to the project team.
- Update process flow diagrams based on findings.
- Establish baseline data and develop Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s) to support process improvements.
- Perform waste reduction analysis to support operational efficiency.
- Present project results, recommendations, and implementation summaries to leadership at the end of the internship.
What You’ll Bring
- Currently pursuing a BS or MS degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, or Instrumental Engineering or a related program.
- Proficient skills in MS Office (Excel, Word, etc.).
- Foundational understanding of engineering software or simulation tools such as AutoCAD & SolidWorks.
- Strong analytical and data interpretation skills.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and in team environments.
- Strong interest in learning about food processing and technology.
- This position will be at our processing facility in Firebaugh, CA. Intern may travel occasionally to other CA sites.

Compensation & Relocation
The pay for this role in the state of California is $22-$32/hr and is based on the candidate’s experience, degree, position responsibilities, and geographic location. Interns with a permanent address more than 35 miles from the work location are eligible to receive a stipend to offset relocation and housing costs.
