About the Job
The Engineering Intern will play a crucial role in supporting Airline Technology, specifically focusing on the enhancement, analysis, operational support, and modernization of Flight Planning systems. This position offers a hands-on learning experience in several key areas:
- Application development
- Data integration
- System troubleshooting
- Agile delivery practices within a large-scale enterprise environment
Interns will work closely with senior engineers, analysts, and product team members. Responsibilities will include refining requirements, building prototypes, validating data flows, and supporting application improvements to boost system reliability and operational efficiency. This role is ideal for students with an interest in software engineering, systems engineering, or enterprise application development.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist engineers with the development, testing, and documentation of Flight Planning application enhancements and modernization efforts.
- Support the analysis of system defects, logs, and data flows to identify root causes and propose solutions.
- Participate actively in Agile ceremonies (standups, grooming, retrospectives, demos) and contribute to sprint deliverables.
- Help update technical documentation, diagrams, and application support materials.
- Perform data validation and assist in preparing test scenarios for upcoming releases.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand workflows, dependencies, and operational requirements.
- Learn and apply FedEx development standards, tools, and best practices.
Required Skills / Qualifications
- Pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field.
- Familiarity with one or more programming languages (Java, Python, or JavaScript preferred).
- Basic understanding of APIs, web services, or system integration concepts.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to communicate clearly and work effectively in a collaborative team environment.
- Demonstrated interest in enterprise applications and operational systems.
Preferred Skills
- Experience with version control systems (e.g., Git).
- Exposure to Agile methodologies.
- Familiarity with databases (SQL) or data analysis tools.
Minimum Education
Currently enrolled student or recent college graduate (within 6 months of graduation) at a college/university obtaining a 3.0 GPA or higher.
Degree: Currently enrolled in a degree program such as Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Engineering, Business, Business Analytics, Management, Finance, Economics, Information Security/Science/Technology, Information Systems, Engineering, Statistics, or other related major.
Minimum Experience
No experience required.
Knowledge, Skills And Abilities
- Ability to work productively and proactively, both independently and as a part of a team.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
- Demonstrates interpersonal communication skills.
- Possesses time management, organizational, and multi-tasking skills necessary to thrive in a fast-paced environment, handling various tasks and changing priorities, while maintaining a high attention to detail and accuracy to achieve daily assignments and goals.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills necessary to communicate across business units and to all levels of management.
- Ability to analyze, review, and make recommendations.
Pay Transparency
- Pay: Salary is $25/hour for undergraduates and $30/hour for graduates.
- Stipend: A $2,000 stipend is available for those relocating over 50 miles for an on-site or hybrid internship or co-op experience.
- Program Duration: Availability to work 40 hours/week for a 10-week program, from June 8th to August 14th.
