The Opportunity: Engineering Intern

As an Engineering Intern at Vantive’s Mountain Home site, you will play a crucial role in supporting process improvement, troubleshooting, and documentation within our medical device manufacturing operations. The facility encompasses injection molding with over 40 presses, producing plastic components for the kidney dialysis market, and cleanroom assembly lines dedicated to manufacturing Automated Peritoneal Dialysis (APD) sets. This hands-on role involves working closely with engineers, technicians, and production teams to enhance safety, quality, throughput, and cost efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist Manufacturing Engineers with process monitoring, data collection, and analysis for injection molding and assembly operations.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives (Lean/6σ), including cycle time reduction, yield improvement, scrap reduction, and ergonomics/safety enhancements.
  • Participate in troubleshooting automated and semi-automated assembly equipment by documenting symptoms, collecting evidence, and validating fixes.
  • Help create and update critical manufacturing documentation, such as work instructions, visual aids, standard work, process flow diagrams, and basic equipment checklists.
  • Assist with time studies and capacity assessments to inform staffing and line balancing recommendations.
  • Support quality investigations (e.g., nonconformances, defect Pareto analysis) by compiling data, summarizing trends, and assisting with corrective actions under engineer guidance.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Manufacturing, Quality, Maintenance, and Engineering teams to communicate findings and support implementation efforts.
  • Apply good documentation practices in a regulated environment and adhere to cleanroom and safety requirements.

Required Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing, Mechanical, Industrial, Chemical, Electrical, Controls, Automation Engineering, or a closely related field.
