The TL;DR
• Role: Internship
• Type: Full-time (40 hours per week, per semester, alternating with coursework)
• Location: In-person
• Team: Functions as a cross-functional team member, collaborating with departments such as quality, product design, manufacturing, tool design, and sales.
• Mission: To provide meaningful learning experiences for engineering students by exposing them to the real working world, allowing them to apply academic concepts, assist with problem-solving, and contribute to the development of new products and processes for automotive security systems.
• Tech Stack: AutoCAD, CAD for modeling and drafting, various specialized software programs.
What You’ll Actually Do
• Product Design & Development: Develop prototype models using CAD, assist in the design of test fixturing, and actively contribute to the design and development of new products for automotive access and security systems.
• Process Improvement & Optimization: Conduct Design of Experiments (DOE) by designing trials, collecting and summarizing data, and then recommending and implementing effective solutions to enhance manufacturing processes.
• Testing & Validation Engineering: Learn and perform thorough validation testing of new product designs and manufacturing processes, including developing comprehensive test plans and becoming familiar with various inspection methods and test equipment.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Participate actively as a key member within cross-functional teams, collaborating closely with quality assurance, product design, manufacturing, and tool design engineers to address complex project challenges.
• Technical Documentation & Analysis: Create, document, and implement work instructions for processes and equipment, assist with Design for Manufacturing (DFM), perform engineering calculations, and organize Design and Process Failure Mode Effects Analysis (DFMEA/PFMEA).
The Must-Haves
• Background: Early Career professional, currently a qualified, actively enrolled student in good standing within an accredited bachelor’s degree program in an engineering discipline (mechanical, electrical, or industrial).
• Experience: Must be enrolled in a credit course specifically covering the co-op experience for the term(s) of employment, demonstrating commitment to academic and professional integration.
• Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities demonstrated through conducting Design of Experiments, Gage R&R, and FMEA; proficiency in CAD software including AutoCAD for design and drafting; ability to perform engineering calculations; excellent verbal and written communication skills; and a team-oriented attitude.
