Job Description: Engineering Co-op (May 2025)
This 7-8 month co-op (May-December 2025) offers real-world experience and learning opportunities within Cargill’s diverse businesses: Agricultural Supply Chain North America (CASCNA), Cocoa and Chocolate North America (CCNA), Edible Oils North America (EONA), Cargill Bio Industrial (CBI), Protein and Salt (CPS), and Starches and Sweeteners and Texturizing Solutions (CSST).
Co-ops will work in one of Cargill’s many production facilities across the United States, gaining experience in either Operations Leadership or Maintenance & Reliability Engineering. The program aims to expose individuals to both the technical and management aspects of engineering, fostering long-term career aspirations.
Specific roles and responsibilities vary by department, but generally include:
• Production Management Engineers: Leading people, processes, and input/output in a plant environment; direct supervision of operators; participation in daily production management meetings; handling government regulations and compliance (environmental, health, safety, maintenance, housekeeping); team development (including hiring, scheduling, motivation, and employee relations); process optimization; equipment and process reliability; capital projects.
• Environmental Engineers: Working with various teams and assets related to refrigeration, steam, freshwater, hot water, and compressed air systems; operation of wastewater treatment plants; environmental compliance and regulatory permitting; supervision of operators and technicians; daily work and planning (maintenance, capital projects, process improvement).
• Process/Project Engineers: Business case development; vendor selection; budget management; project management for improvements involving process optimization, safety, quality, infrastructure, and energy use; involvement in innovation processes, idea generation, and reliability-centered design; implementation of technical initiatives.
• Maintenance & Reliability Engineers: Engaging teams and improving processes related to facility production; minimizing downtime and repair costs; supervising specialized teams; short- and long-term planning (maintenance, capital projects, process improvement); utilizing tools like Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM), Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA), Root Cause Analysis (RCA), 5S, and 5-Why.

Physical Demands: The job involves moderate physical exertion, including bending, stooping, squatting, twisting, reaching, working on irregular surfaces, occasional lifting of objects over 50 pounds, and frequent lifting of 10-25 pounds. Exposure to heat, cold, grain dust, etc., may also occur.
Compensation: $25.00 – $34.70 per hour (dependent on graduation date and full-time employment eligibility). Benefits are also offered, details are available on Cargill’s website.
