Engineer Position at Cargill:

This entry-level Engineer position offers a chance to contribute to meaningful work, feed the world, and achieve a higher purpose. From day one, you will be an integral part of the team at one of Cargill’s many production facilities across the United States.

Your Role: As an Engineer, you will lead production or maintenance employees, project teams, contractors, and technical operations teams in a fast-paced production environment. Career Path: The Engineer role is designed to expose you to both the technical and managerial aspects of engineering, while you develop your long-term career aspirations. Potential career paths include:

Production Management Engineers: Lead people, process, and input/product in a plant environment. You will be involved in daily supervision of operators, production activities, and production management meetings. You will also play a key role in ensuring compliance with government regulations and Cargill’s safety and environmental programs. This role typically involves building teams of production employees within the first two years and taking responsibility for hiring, scheduling, motivating, and handling employee relations. You will also participate in process optimization, equipment and process reliability, and may lead capital projects.
Environmental Engineers: Lead people, process, and assets related to the effective operation of various systems like refrigeration, steam, fresh water distribution, and compressed air. You will oversee the operation of a large-scale Waste Water Treatment Plant (WWTP) and lead programs related to environmental compliance and regulatory permitting. You will also be involved in daily supervision of operators and technicians, lead their daily work activities, and be responsible for short- and long-term planning activities.
Process/Project Engineers: Responsible for business case development, vendor selection, budget management, and project management for major projects. This includes process optimization, safety, quality, infrastructure, and energy use. You will be heavily involved in innovation processes, idea generation systems, and reliability centered design, and will help implement technical initiatives from global groups like Process Development Groups, Centers of Excellence, and Research & Development.
Maintenance and Reliability Engineers: Lead people, processes, and assets related to the effective operation of facility production and utility assets, ensuring optimal uptime and repair costs. You will supervise skilled trades people, lead planned and unplanned work activities, and be responsible for long-term planning activities. This role utilizes tools like Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM), Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA), Root Cause Analysis (RCA), 5S and 5-Why to prevent asset failures.

Environment: The plant environment is team-oriented, fast-paced, and hands-on. It emphasizes Safety, Employee Engagement, Inclusion, and Innovation. You should be prepared for an industrial/processing environment that requires physical activity and exposure to potential hazards like heat, cold, and grain dust.

Job Locations: Various U.S. locations. Must be open to relocation.

Requirements:

• Right to work in the U.S. (not based solely on a student visa)
• Currently pursuing or recently graduated with a Bachelor of Science or Master’s degree in agricultural, biological systems, chemical, electrical, mechanical, mining, or other engineering disciplines. Degree completion between December 2024 and Summer 2025.
• Willing and able to relocate
• Ability to work optimally with diverse individuals and cultures
• Strong communication skills (written and oral)

Preferred Qualifications:

• Previous plant, production, co-op, or intern experience
• GPA of 2.7 or higher
• Ability to relate technical knowledge to job-related duties
• Problem-solving and decision-making skills
• Leadership skills and experience
