What We Look For In an Elementary School Math Tutor

• Advanced Subject Mastery:
  • Deep knowledge of core elementary math concepts: number sense, place value, addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, basic fractions and decimals, measurement, time, money, geometry shapes, patterns, and introductory data interpretation.

  • Emphasizes discovery-based learning and connects math to everyday contexts such as cooking, shopping, and telling time.
• Curriculum Awareness & Adaptive Instruction:
  • Familiarity with elementary math standards for grades one through five.
  • Understanding of common challenges students face (e.g., regrouping in subtraction, understanding fractions as parts of a whole, memorizing multiplication facts).
  • Ability to adapt instruction using resources like base-ten blocks, fraction strips, games, and multi-sensory approaches to support young learners at varying developmental levels.
• Effective Teaching Methods:
  • Ability to identify common student struggles and explain material using multiple approaches.
  • Adept at adapting instruction to meet individual learning needs and styles.
  • Strong communication skills and a friendly, engaging teaching style.
