What We Look For In an Elementary School Math Tutor

  • Emphasis on discovery-based learning and connecting math to everyday contexts like cooking, shopping, and telling time.
• Curriculum Awareness & Adaptive Instruction:
  • Familiarity with elementary math standards for grades one through five.
  • Awareness of common challenges students face, such as regrouping in subtraction, understanding fractions as parts of a whole, and memorizing multiplication facts.
  • Proficiency in adapting instruction using base-ten blocks, fraction strips, games, and multi-sensory approaches to support young learners at varying developmental readiness levels.
• Effective Teaching Methods:
  • Ability to identify concepts students commonly struggle with and explain material using multiple approaches.
  • Capacity to adapt instruction to meet individual learning needs and styles.
• Strong Communication Skills: Possess excellent communication skills and a friendly, engaging teaching style.
• Adaptability: Demonstrated ability to adapt to different learning styles and student needs.
