Job Title: EHS Intern

Reporting Relationship: The EHS Intern works under the direct supervision of the Senior EHS Manager.

Location: Groton, CT facility

Summary/Goal of the Position:
The primary goal of this position is to support the environmental, health, and safety (EHS) program at the Groton, CT facility. This involves providing tactical support for various program updates, including but not limited to:
• Lockout/Tagout procedures
• Confined Space protocols
• Hazard Assessments
• Employee Training

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The core responsibilities of the EHS Intern include:
Supporting policies, programs, and projects aimed at reducing and eliminating workplace hazards.
Assisting in training employees on safety procedures to ensure production needs are met and to help address plant-specific safety issues.
Contributing to the updates of various EH&S programs to ensure ongoing compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
Participating in periodic reviews and audits, specifically for air, water, and hazardous wastes, to confirm that safety and environmental programs meet or exceed established federal and state regulations.
Executing safety audits and inspections as required.
Evaluating facilities to assess safety conditions.

Secondary Duties and Responsibilities:
In addition to the essential duties, the intern must also:
Comply with all applicable safety requirements, policies, and procedures, while maintaining a clean, safe, and orderly work environment.
Participate in all required training, medical monitoring, safety, and health evaluations and programs.
Wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) in all designated areas of the facility.
Perform all physical functions of the position, including standing, stooping, bending, sitting, walking, twisting, kneeling, turning, and lifting materials.
Meet established attendance standards.
Immediately report any work-related injury or illness to their direct supervisor/manager.
Perform other duties as assigned.

Education, Experience, and Required Skills:
Candidates for this position must meet the following criteria:
Education: Actively attending an accredited university and pursuing a degree in health, safety, environmental, or engineering.
Computer Skills: Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office suite of products (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal communication abilities are essential.
Work Ethic: Ability to work effectively both independently and within groups to meet established timelines.

Physical Requirements:
The job requires various physical activities:
Frequent Activities: Standing, walking, twisting, turning, talking, and/or hearing.
Occasional Activities: Sitting, kneeling, stooping, bending, and using hands to finger, handle, or feel.
Lifting/Moving: Occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 35 pounds.
Vision: Specific vision abilities required include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
