About the Job
This role is a paid six-month editorial internship at The Sporting News, based at their Charlotte, NC headquarters, targeting ambitious and creative recent college graduates interested in a career in digital sports journalism.

Internship Responsibilities:
Editorial interns will be deeply involved in all aspects of content creation around major sports, including the NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL, and college sports. You will gain hands-on experience from full-time writers and editors, learning how to shape live and breaking news coverage, develop SEO best practices, and plan content strategies for major sporting events. Specific responsibilities include:
• Writing trending news articles, live blogs, and evergreen content for a national audience.
• Assisting in the maintenance of the evergreen content catalog.
• Collaborating with full-time staff on special projects, encompassing both written and multimedia formats.
• Learning to utilize audience tools like Google Trends to effectively package and promote content for millions of digital readers.
• Contributing ideas for graphics, videos, and other content for Sporting News’ social platforms.
Requirements:
Candidates must meet the following criteria:
• Ability to commit to the entire six-month program. This internship is exclusively for recent graduates less than 12 months removed from completing their degree.
• A demonstrated ability to work smart and fast within a dynamic digital news environment.
• Proficiency in writing clean, concise, and engaging content across a variety of sports and topics.
• Strong knowledge of most North American professional and collegiate sports.
• A basic understanding of best SEO and social media practices.
• Be a team player, willing to collaborate with editors and writers and receptive to constructive feedback.
• Possess strong grammar skills, meticulous attention to detail, and a firm grasp of AP style.
• Be flexible and willing to work a combination of days, nights, and weekends as required by the demands of live sports coverage.
