Docketing Technician (Office Automation) | United States Attorneys’​ Offices

The Tone:
This is a full-time role at the United States Attorneys’ Offices, with positions available in Cleveland/Akron, Ohio, and Toledo, Ohio. As part of the U.S. Department of Justice, the United States Attorneys’ Offices are dedicated to upholding the rule of law and the United States Constitution across the nation. This position is vital for performing precise docketing and developing complex legal reports, directly supporting the legal operations of the Northern District of Ohio. It ensures the efficient management of case tracking and record-keeping systems, contributing significantly to the effectiveness of federal government operations.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Case Management: Manage and update case records within automated docketing databases and electronic systems.
• Data Reporting: Extract and produce program and statistical data as requested, generating comprehensive reports.
• Document Processing: Receive, review, and process incoming case files and various legal documents for accuracy.
• Content Creation: Create written documents, tables, graphs, and charts using office automation applications for legal and courtroom use.
• System Maintenance: Ensure accurate status changes, close cases as directed, and contribute to the overall integrity of record-keeping systems.

The Must-Haves
• Background: To qualify at the GS-05 level, candidates must have either one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-04 level or four years of education beyond high school. This specialized experience involves general clerical/administrative support, including reviewing basic legal documents, handling mail, responding to inquiries, typing, filing, and data entry in electronic systems.
• Experience: For the GS-07 level, candidates require one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-06 level. This includes deep knowledge of rules and practices for administrative and legal hearings, comprehensive understanding of legal terms and definitions, performing complex data entry into electronic file and case tracking systems, leveraging legal terminology and court proceedings for accurate docketing, identifying record errors, recommending procedural improvements, assisting with training new employees, and producing complex reports from database information.
• Skills: Typing proficiency at a minimum of 40 words per minute with three or fewer errors based on a five-minute sample. Demonstrated ability to utilize and manage automated docketing databases and electronic case management systems for data input, extraction, and record updates. Expertise in using a wide range of office automation applications to produce diverse written documents, legal reports, tables, graphs, and charts for presentations. Comprehensive understanding of legal terminology, litigation processes, and court proceedings to accurately docket documents, identify errors in records, and determine appropriate legal actions. Capacity to review incoming case files and documents for completeness and accuracy, maintaining organized filing and record-keeping systems.
