Job Description
Job Title: Directory Services Administrator
We are seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Directory Services Administrator to join our team. This role is crucial for managing and maintaining our hybrid IT environment, ensuring robust directory services, and supporting our infrastructure operations. The ideal candidate will possess a foundational understanding of Windows server environments, Active Directory, and basic networking principles, coupled with a commitment to maintaining security compliance and operational efficiency.
What You Will Bring (Required Skills and Experience):
A successful candidate will demonstrate a strong foundation in the following areas:
- Fundamental IT Concepts: Basic understanding of client/server architecture, networking protocols, and internet fundamentals.
- Windows Server Expertise: Basic understanding of Windows Server 2012 or higher, including deployment, management, and core services.
- Active Directory Proficiency: Basic understanding of Active Directory administration, including account management, domains, and trusts.
- Group Policy Management: Basic understanding of Group Policy Objects (GPOs) and their application.
- Network Services: Basic understanding of DNS (Domain Name System) and DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol).
- PowerShell Scripting: An understanding of PowerShell scripting concepts and how it functions.
- Troubleshooting Skills: Basic level troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities to identify and resolve common IT issues.
- Experience: 1-4 years of direct experience in:
- Microsoft Windows Server 2012 or higher deployment.
- Domain Controller deployment, configuration, and management.
- Account management using Active Directory on-premise and Azure cloud environments.
- Server management, specifically with Microsoft Windows Server 2016/2019/2022.
The Ideal Candidate Will Also Have (Desired Skills and Experience):
- Hybrid Environment Experience: Prior experience with a hybrid IT environment incorporating both on-premise and cloud servers.
- Infrastructure Deployment: Basic knowledge of DNS, DHCP, Active Directory, and Windows server deployment.
- Advanced Troubleshooting: Some troubleshooting background with the ability to assist with more complex problems.
- Group Policy Administration: Hands-on experience with Group Policy administration.
- Network Security: Understanding of basic network security compliance and patching procedures.
- Virtualization: Experience with VMware virtualization technologies.
- Azure Cloud: Some experience with the Azure cloud environment.
Key Tasks and Responsibilities:
As a Directory Services Administrator, your primary responsibilities will include:
- Server Management: Deployment, management of security posture, and verification of core services for Windows servers.
- Account Management: Managing user and service accounts, groups, permissions, and basic configurations within Active Directory and Azure AD.
- GPO Management: Administering Group Policy Objects using NetIQ Group Policy Administrator (GPA) and native tools.
- Tool Utilization: Proficient use of Remote Server Administration Tools (RSAT).
- DNS & DHCP Management: Managing DNS records and configuring/managing DHCP servers.
- Security Compliance: Performing patching and DISA STIGing (Security Technical Implementation Guides) on servers to maintain required compliance levels.
- Active Directory Sites & Services: Managing Active Directory Sites and Services.
- Ticketing System: Utilizing the Remedy ticketing system for incident and request management.
- Virtual Environment Management: Managing servers within VMware virtual environments.
- Core Service Troubleshooting: Troubleshooting critical directory services, including Active Directory replication and domain trusts.
- PowerShell Scripting: Developing and deploying PowerShell scripts to automate tasks and improve efficiency.
Education & Certifications:
Required:
- Security Clearance: Active Secret Clearance.
- IAT Level II Certification: Security+ or other qualifying IAT II certification.
- Azure Fundamentals: Microsoft AZ-900 (Azure Fundamentals).
Desired:
- Azure Administrator: Microsoft AZ-104 Administrator Associate certification.
- Windows Server Hybrid: AZ-800 and AZ-801 Windows Server Hybrid Core Infrastructure Certification.
- Additional Certifications: Other industry certifications may be required within a specific timeframe as directed by the government.
Work Environment & Compensation:
- Schedule: The primary shift for this position is Monday – Friday, between the hours of 0700 – 1700.
- Certification Compliance: Certification requirements are subject to change per government direction. If this occurs, you will have 120 days to become compliant.
- Salary Range: $50,000 – $60,000 a year. The offered rate will be based on the selected candidate’s knowledge, skills, abilities, and/or experience, and in consideration of internal parity. The posted range is appropriate for a typical candidate meeting, at a minimum, all the core requirements of the position.
