Director of Operations | Medical University of South Carolina
The Tone:
This is a full-time role at Medical University of South Carolina, with a hybrid work model located in South Carolina. The Medical University Hospital Authority (MUHA) manages this position. This role is crucial for leading operations and driving strategic growth within the Corrections Health ICCE, ensuring high-quality healthcare delivery and program expansion for both county jail and state prison contracts. The individual in this role will be instrumental in expanding MUSC’s footprint in correctional health while maintaining operational excellence and strong partnerships.

• Team: Corrections Health ICCE, supporting the System Administrative Officer (SAO) and Chief of the Corrections Health ICCE.
• Mission: Ensure MUSC’s correctional health programs deliver outstanding performance, strong partnerships, and sustainable growth across both jail and prison correctional units.
What You’ll Actually Do
• Strategic Growth: Drive strategic growth and operational excellence for both county jail and prison healthcare contracts.
• Business Development: Lead business development for county jails, including engaging with county administrators, attending conferences, and managing the Request-for-Proposal (RFP) bidding process.
• Contract Expansion: Focus on expanding contract operations for the South Carolina Department of Corrections (SCDC), launching and managing onsite units and developing new acute care services.
• Operational Oversight: Oversee daily operations of MUSC-contracted correctional health facilities, ensuring staffing, clinical services, contract compliance, and quality outcomes.
• Stakeholder Engagement: Serve as the primary operational liaison between MUSC Corrections Health ICCE, external partners, and MUSC Divisional leadership, maintaining strong partnerships.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s degree in Healthcare Management, Business Administration, Public Health, Nursing, or a related field.
• Experience: 9 years of progressive work experience and 4 years of management experience, with demonstrated success in contract development, RFP management, and healthcare business growth.
• Skills: Strong analytical and budgeting skills; excellent communication and interpersonal abilities; negotiation and facilitation skills to work effectively with executive leadership and external partners.
• Bonus: Master’s degree preferred; 2 years of correctional healthcare management preferred; knowledge of correctional healthcare systems highly preferred; ability to work in a dynamic environment with frequent travel; ideal candidate located in Columbia, SC and/or the surrounding area.
